It sounds like the referred-to office was notified that you were referred and tried to book an appointment but wasn't able to. I think referral was ordered and approved, but the appointment wasn't actually made. Your provider should have discussed putting a referral with you though.

That's super weird, I'd either ask about it at the next visit or just change providers altogether. You could also try calling the office they referred to you to to try to find out what happened but idk if it would be worth the effort.

How did they book an appointment for you? Usually when a referral gets ordered, the insurance either approves or denies it, then the insurance contacts that patient with the result, and it's up to the patient to call the referred office to make the next appointment.
