One of the things that gets me about cold call emails inviting me to call to learn more about a networking event or what have you is that it's so obvious when they say things like "you're dedicated to creating a community around your game dev journey" but don't name the co-op I co-founded. (1/2)

The number of times I've used programmer art, sketches, or even music from a game that inspired the game as placeholder assets is significantly higher than zero. That's really all it takes.

If the visuals are THAT important to getting your project funded, then you need to pay a person up front for those key visuals and deliver a consistent end product to your backers.

I agree w/this and I said this before as relates to the Fortnite Vader thing: to me, it doesn't matter that James Earl Jones gave permission for his voice to be used with Gen AI stuff. Just that alone opened up his voice to be used to say horrendous things, and that's ghastly. (1/2)
"But it was generated from real human voices" is not a good argument for this. There is no human curation to the output, there is a reason we have craftspeople and the *discipline* of video game voice acting exists. The artistry is gone and actively drags down the rest of the game design with it.
