Once when I was 8 years old my grandmother asked me, what will you do when you grow up? And I answered, I want to die. I want to die when I grow up. I want to die soon. And I think my sister really liked that answer. ― Fleur Jaeggy, "I Am the Brother of XX"

when I spoke of bathing
a dazed state commenced
all round about us,
with a splash
a big, heavy
morning
was beginning to break.

a desire for repose
came
with a can of hot water; and
a little Marsala
with a tumbler of wine,
and more wine:
a shut door
and pet dogs
and a nightshirt,
and collapse
that ministering angel

It's pub day for my 2nd book of visual poetry, Classic Crimes. Thanks to the super humans at @sarabandebooks.bsky.social. They took great care -- from the paper that makes the images/text crisp & vibrant to the title page to collage outtakes scattered throughout.

"If there could be love without violence,
there would be no breakers or boat. There would be
no tower to dive from. Maybe
there would be a field..."

Run over & read @jessicapoli.bsky.social's poems about diving horses at Blackbird. I took the image from her post on the poems elsewhere! rb.gy/wi6md7

Pennsylvania Ave. SE is the opening poem to Taylor Johnson's "Inheritance." There's a short discussion of the poem over at Poetry Unbound. onbeing.org/programs/tay...

I love the look of old paper, the so-called yellowing, as if it were a living thing aging. When I'm plundering the free public bookshelves I open the older ones first to see what shades are taking over. I love using old paper in my visual poems. This one is from "Classic Crimes," out May 20.

For #smallpoemsunday, "A Moment to Consider" from my book Classic Crimes, which comes out end of next week from @sarabandebooks.bsky.social !
And to note for Mother's Day, the book is dedicated to my mom, who passed away in Jan. Amid final proofs, Sarabande generously let me change the page.

Someone is looking for writing about games & I'm not sure it is "about" games but what immediately springs to mind is Jenni B. Baker's Pacman erasures. Very sadly, Jenni passed away a few years ago.
