We found mixed mycorrhizal forests had the lowest mycorrhizal C cost — and potentially greater growth — compared to AM- or ECM-dominated forests.

We also found that warming and N deposition reduced mycorrhizal C costs (favoring AM), while elevated CO₂ increased them (favoring ECM).
