TON is also led by @siricarpenter.bsky.social, who co-founded TON and has been leading it for 15 years, because of how much she personally values open access to journalism education, especially around topics that can seem intimidating, like science, technology, and data.

She's pretty awesome.

I didn't know about TON for most of my career, but after I found out about it, I started sharing its resources — the successful freelance pitches database, the guide to tracking sources, the international students slack community. These resources are FREE and available to everyone.

I've been on the board of @theopennotebook.bsky.social for a few years, and I'm so amazed by how much incredible work this team gets done.

People around the world — who don't have access to training — have used TON's classes, articles, tipsheets, etc. to self-teach and BECOME journalists.
