It's just as bad today. Average cost of full time childcare is $1000/month. While we in Sweden we pay (after a monthly stipend per kid) about $50-60 per month.

I think you will like Malmö. Big town (pop 365,000) with a small town feeling. Very close to the rest of Europe by boat or car through Denmark/Holland. Everyone speaks very good English... with a Swedish chef accent 😁
so communication won't be an issue.

Malmö – a city of contrasts
Malmö, in the far south of Sweden, is the third largest city in the country after Stockholm and Gothenburg.

I have been to the US. NY, Orlando, Pittsburg and New Orleans. Nice place to visit but to live there? Fuck no.
Do you know your murder rate (murder per 100.000 people) is 6 times higher than in Europe? In some areas 15-20 times higher. Why are you fed up with your country?
I'm curious.
Cheers mate!

Lycka till. Hoppas du landar på fötterna.
Not a big deal being gay over here. No one gives a phuck.
Love is love.

We are like most western countries: capitalist with strong social programs that Americans can only dream about.
Yes. Since they are payed through our taxes they are higher than yours but just look what we get for them.

While in the socialist hell hole that is the kingdom of Sweden we pay (after the monthly stipend) $52 per month for full time, high end childcare including meals and diapers.
We also have 1.5 years payed parental leave to be shared between the parents. Try that.

Tax $ well spent. My daughter loved her daycare and the wonderful, well payed, staff.

Truly insane. In Sweden childcare workers are well payed middle class that we need.
July 12, 2025 at 1:05 PM
It is truly insane that having ids is depending on your paycheck. Unless you have +3 kids and then you are on your own. Don't have kids you can't afford. Simple math.

I guess we think of it as investing in our future.
Do we have families that struggle economically?
Yes.
Do we have social problems stemming from lack of integration of immigrants?
Yes.
Do we have problems with economical inequality?
Yes.
But for every problem we have things that does work.

Lucky how?
You mean it could have been even more expensive?
I mean, we're not talking elective care here.
And American politicians complain about too few children being born. Easy to say when you have a government job. Well payed and with great insurance.
July 6, 2025 at 8:31 AM
To me, those numbers are just insane.
What the heck are you getting for your tax $?
Here's a tip for politicians in the next presidential race:
look at how Scandinavian families are taken care of, copy that and win 90% of the female votes.

I wouldn't call our system as socialist.
Social democrats is closer.
We have problems with immigrants, gangs, drugs but overall it's a nice country to live in.
July 4, 2025 at 1:08 PM
What you need is 100 cloned version of a younger Bernie Sanders 😁to shake things up in your government.
He is a bit crazy but perhaps that is what you need.
Many voters would like to have our social programs but can't vote for them because they are "socialism".
Sigh.😵‍💫

Sweden is definitely more family friendly. We get 1 1/2 year payed (80%) family leave to be shared between the parents.
5 weeks of payed vacation as well.
