Keep looking up!
We’re starting the school year by focusing on systems, routines, and expectations—not jumping straight into lessons. It’s not glamorous, but it sets the tone. A strong foundation now means fewer disruptions later. When things get busy, we’ll be ready because we took the time to build first.

I stumbled on this article on ig- Breadcrumbs by Simon Sarris. I like the idea of leaving breadcrumbs for people to find you and sharing what you are learning. Maybe this is a way for me to connect to others in a way that creates something meaningful, to leave something meaningful.

The part of George Orwell’s 1984 that everyone forgets is how the music and publishing industries have been replaced by a machine that spits out songs and bad novels “without any human intervention.” The goal is to keep you from ever having to think.

I don’t believe I’ve achieved perfect balance but I follow a policy of only communicating during school hours and having clear lines of communication. It may also help that I have regular exit tickets to get feedback/comments from my classes so they have multiple ways of contacting me.
Q1: How do you balance staying connected as an educator while ensuring you take time to unplug and recharge?

I don't know of a single person who hasn't found this enormously effective when giving feedback.
This is a case of trying something out yourself & not waiting — dare I say it, unintelligently — until a research paper tells you it works.

Parking lots turn streets into miserable places to walk.

New study finds that parking lots "negatively - and substantially - impact walkability; their objective walkability score is half that of other road segments."
