Social Security, unemployment insurance and child tax credits are in a sense assets that aren’t usually counted up when discussing wealth and #inequality. A sociologist explains how these benefits are worth far more in countries like Norway: buff.ly/NkctZvA By @robertmanduca.bsky.social @umich.edu
You’re probably richer than you think because of the safety net – but you’d have more of that hidden wealth if you lived in Norway
The typical worker on the verge of retirement is due roughly $412,000 in this under-the-radar wealth.

Click and read what my awesome advisor and other experts are saying about policies/ discourse to increase birth rates in the US. (Almost all comments also apply to today’s fertility rate discussions in Turkey as well)
"if we address the whole set of things that make it hard to manage having children in the US, that would probably collectively have an impact" said @srhayford.bsky.social, director of IPR

Note: It was hard to pick just one quote because so many experts were quoted in this article. Read 'em all here
So you want to increase your country’s birth rate? Experts say it’s tough
As the Trump administration floats potential incentives to bring up the U.S. birth rate, experts tell PBS News that increasing a country’s birth rate is a heavy lift — if it’s possible at all.

Is it a real reform? Experts worry that this latest effort risks recreating many of the same flaws from before.

The World Bank has long sought to replace it’s annual index that fell to scandal in 2021. But a new replacement repeats some of the flaws.

I think this is an unpopular idea but… about methods sections- they should be clear enough that someone with the data should easily be able to replicate it. If you don’t have space to write it, cite a methods paper or a previous paper something.

Omg this country…. Privatization of firefighters????
By calling firefighters* heroes, do we flatten their humanity and substitute cultural valorization for pay that would support class mobility? Read Matthew Desmond's 2008 "The Lie of Heroism" journals.sagepub.com/doi/epdf/10....

*More complex WRT incarcerated firefighters 😬
