"The night itself seemed to ring in Henry's ears. The jeers of the onlookers, like wolves baying at the full moon, call for the very blood that rushes through his veins. Yet he was alone fixed on his own target swaying on its feet, only an arm's length away. Poor bastard, he thinks, he never stood a ch- Henry's head snaps back violently as his opponent takes advantage of a miraculous second wind no one saw coming– the man's meaty fist catching on his jaw in a nasty right hook. Henry tastes blood as his teeth tear into the inside of his cheek and by instinct alone he manages to dodge the other wild swings aimed for his head. The man, Charlie, he hazily remembers, is good. But he moves without consideration, without thought to where his body will end up after a swing. Part of Henry misses that. Moving without thinking. But then again, he spits blood into the dirt and smiles, he enjoys winning a lot more."
