Covid is the other dynamic, and the subsequent rise in remote/hybrid working. Office construction flatlined when Covid hit.

But the minimum wage hasn't even reached the Living Wage Foundation's minimum yet. Don't we need it to keep rising if we don't want to live in a cruel society? I don't know how we balance these things.

"plenty of managers are feeling pretty aggrieved at the prospect of earning only a little more than their subordinates" - this is an important point, and applies to skilled or experienced trades too (eg. bakers). It's causing resentment against the minimum wage that must be having a political effect
