Finally got round to opening my #MWSecretSantaAoNZ presents. A 'Drinktionary' novelty beer stein, pair of cosy boozey socks, and a tasty bar of chocolate. All will be put to good use! Thank you, Santa!

Flooded streets in Kirikiriroa. Both lanes of Claudelands Road are barely passable. We turned around rather than risk it. Be safe our there.

Scottish here, but not a Gaelic speaker.

Looks like it says 'An ni A Gheall Dia, cha Mheall Duine'.

A search suggests that's a Scottish proverb meaning 'What God has promised man cannot prevent' or 'What God has promised man cannot baulk'.

If the alternative to 'butter too pricey?' isn't 'end the supermarket duopoly and regulate against widespead price-gouging of NZ consumers' then I'm not interested. #nzpol

Feels somewhat misleading for RNZ to accompany a link to an article about the student burned by the school lunch shitshow with an image of a meal which almost certainly isn't part of the current scheme (it looks edible) and definitely isn't the cottage pie dish which burned the student. #nzpol

At the same time, also Christopher Luxon:

If Luxon doesn't think that pupils, parents and staff should be allowed to raise complaints about the the school lunch programme, why does his contract specifically include have a requirement for the Supplier to monitor and report delivery performance on student feedback and nutritional compliance?

Kirikiriroa's Summer Shakespeare dawn performance of Twelfth Night this morning was a really lovely time. One of the most playful Shakespeare productions I've seen in recent times. Worth the 4am alarm.

The School Lunch Collective's website says 'Our Mission: Healthy Meals for Every Tamariki in Aotearoa'

Can 'tamariki' be used as a singular? This feels like writing 'healthy meals for every children'.

I have ventured the furthest north in Aotearoa I have ever been in my 13 years living here, to Mangawhai in Northland. The name translates as 'stream of the stingrays' which inhabit the harbour. It's quite beautiful.

Battenberg.

An English colleague mentioned this was her favourite cake and she struggles to find it in Aotearoa. So I promised to make it as an office Christmas treat, and it turned out neither demure nor mindful.
