From a paper I had the misfortune to look at - it's about trying to analyse factors responsible for "response" and "resistance" to a drug. This is the ENTIRE methods section (there isn't a section 2.2). Good luck trying to replicate it!

My view is that we should avoid this sort of thing and analyse the data that we measure.
