My journey into poetry is underway. Still an infant in this space - hey, at least I've made a start.
I cut through Lincoln Square on my way to the Creative Non-fiction lecture at Melbourne Uni.

Welcome Monday morning

I didn’t sleep well last night. My head stuck in this awful loop of how crap things seem, and the people to blame for said crap feelings.
Realisation:
Crap feelings are all mine and noone else’s doing.
I’ve wasted my time in this loop when I could have been sleeping.
I’m desperate for coffee now.

My beautiful mummy passed away on Saturday, aged 91.
My heart hangs heavy with grief, and simultaneously, filled with love, for the most amazing, incredible, brilliant woman who shared 60 years with me.

What a welcome arrival! During these past 6 months of caring for unwell, elderly parents, I am so looking forward to reading something that will bring a smile to my face.
@robgotobed.bsky.social excited to open (and read) your 2024 book.

Attended the Rhythm in Poetry and Prose workshop today, with award-winning poet Thabani Tshuma. Fantastic session.
Had fun with the BLAH poem 😀
It was held at the stunning Bunjil Place Library.

Enjoyed the best #vegan lunch in #korumburra at The Coteri Korumburra -
Mushroom medley, cashew cheese, balsamic/chilli/lemon on toast.
Yummo.

My sister, partner and I spent a very relaxing time, visiting #korumburra and #loch. We really needed (and appreciated) the time out from our stress over the increasing care needs of elderly parents.
Here we are enjoying great coffee and delicious chocolate at The Loch Grocer ♥️

Beautiful autumn sunrise today. I'm pretty sure that star you see above the chestnut tree is infact our planet of love, Venus.

Have you noticed - every moment you look, you see something different / differently? No matter if it's out the window, or in the mirror...
Here's a poem about these thoughts.

Yay! My @austbookreview.bsky.social mag arrived today. Can't wait to read Phillip Deery's review of Shiela Fitzpatrick' book about Baltic DPs.
I'm a first gen Australian, as my Baltic parents and grandparents came here as WWII refugees.

This stunning street-art mural, opposite Mordialloc train station, was created by artist Sam Bates, as part of last weekend's local Wall To Wall festival.
The detail in this work is simply superb.

What an exciting day. I checked the mailbox and the latest @mslexia.bsky.social magazine was waiting for me.
It has travelled far across the oceans to reach me - and what a timely and wonderful surprise.

I’m currently reading A Million Windows, by Gerald Murnane.

I’m only a few chapters in, and it is a very different style of writing than I am perhaps used to. What I do notice is the incredible intimacy that Gerald builds between the character’s voice and his audience.

There is nothing more grounding, indulgent or real than holding a physical book.

Holding a book gifts you precious time - that book gives you permission to sit and read.

Where do you source your books from?

- Independent book stores

- Amazon

- Libraries

- Second-hand shops

Do you always finish reading a book?
If not, why?
What about books you’re not really getting in to - do you still feel obliged to read to the end?
I’ve heard some people say that once you reach the page number that matches your age you can then stop reading if the book just doesn’t grab you.

Ode to Matthew.
Here's a fun little love poem.
It came about during a poetry workshop with The Poetry School when we were asked to write "I wanted to use a simile , but..."

I wrote this poem to illustrate the damage that consumerism has on our Earth.
This poem specifically looks at destruction of ancient rainforests so that cacao trees can be grown to meet the insatiable need we have for chocolate.

This is my first foray into writing Haiku poetry.
I laugh at how simple I originally thought it would be.
Foolish indeed.
It took me two days to capture a moment in time/nature and pen this.
