I think the work to compare it with is 1984, which I’ve always believed is actually less about Stalinism or Nazism but wartime society in Britain and what Orwell feared it could lead to. This is extremely clear when you read Orwell’s review of THS (which is quite favorable!)

While Lewis was certainly anti-Labour, I think he was casting a wider net than that. That Hideous Strength is more a reaction against the modernizing tendencies of the war years.
