Morroyo recently finished the Omega raid series...and now he's had his FIRST sighting of Alpha and Omega in Eorzea. They were near Copperbell Mines in Thanalan...where Morroyo was out doing another Moogle Mail run!

As a Gridanian, Lewin grew up eating a lot of Mun Tuy beans. He wasn't a total vegetarian (he comes from a family of hunters) but he actually didn't eat a varied diet UNTIL he left Gridania.

He can't stand the sight, smell or taste of Mun Tuy beans now and absolutely REFUSES to touch them now.
"Ugh, please tell me that stuff isn't on the menu. I'll go and hunt my own food first."

For those who don't know, I was born in the UK, but my parents are both from the Philippines. I live in the US now.

Morroyo is very Filipino-coded (he's based on 2 people I know IRL). He's hospitable and will ask if you've eaten and will feed you if you haven't. I headcanon that he does kareoke. 😆

Another short scene from my #FFXIV writing WIP. Morroyo's arcanist mentor Rafael Baquiran introduces Morroyo to his Conjurer teacher, Brother O-San Zora in Gridania. This takes place long before ARR. Morroyo is 22 here (in 1553).

Tito is Rafael's young grandson. According to EE1...
The forests stood unchanging, even after more than thirty years. Rafael closed his eyes and reached out; he felt a soft brush against his mind, as if something assessed his very nature. It withdrew and left a warmth in its wake. At least the Elementals still deemed him worthy, even though he'd laid down his conjurer's staff. In some ways, it was rather ironic that his own name, Baquiran, meant 'from the forest' in an old Hingan dialect. "From the forest to the sea, the land still recognizes one of their own." Rafael glanced over his shoulder. "Brother O-Zan Zora. I should have known you'd be waiting." The Padjal chuckled and shook his head. O-Zan Zora's horns poked out of a mass of curly golden hair that was somehow tamed into a pony tail. He wore robes of dark blue and white, and carried a staff of polished wood. Bright, intelligent blue eyes looked up at Rafael as he smiled in welcome. "Of course. The forest told me you were coming. You may wear the robes of an arcanist now, but Gridania will always be your home." The corner of Rafael's mouth went up in a not-so-warm smile. "SOme of the Hearers may object to hearing you say that, Master." O-Zan bowed slightly, like a fencer acknowledging a hit. "True, but *they* are not here at the moment and *I* am." He looked down at Tito. "And it is good to see you again, young Tito. You've grown a few ilms since I saw you last." Tito stood up straighter. "That's what Lolo says, that soon I'll be tall like Papa! And this is my friend, Morroyo. Morroyo, this is O-Zan Sora! He's really nice. He was one of Lolo's teachers!" O-Zan's gaze went from Tito to Morroyo. Morroyo met his scrutiny, eye to eye, not backing down from it. Rafael felt a distinct shiver between them; most Gridanians didn't care for Mi'qote, and considered them ruffians, poachers and worse. It didn't matter that Morroyo was a Sun Seeker from a different land altogether. He hoped it would not cause any problems as long as they were here. "It's an honor to meet you," O-Zan finally said. "You have a distinctive aura, unlike anyone I've seen before." "Do I?" Morroyo looked like he wasn't sure how to respond to that. "Indeed," O-Zan smiled, his bright blue eye crinkled in humor. "You come in search of knowledge, do you not? I am a fellow Seeker of the truth on my own journey. I would like to help you on yours, if you would like." Morroyo blinked. Rafael had to bite his lip to keep from laughing aloud. Just like that, his own teacher had managed to defuse a potentially tense first meeting. That was one skill that was crucial in dealing with people. Rafael strove to do the same with his own students. Morroyo seemed to relax a little more, but he still seemed wary. Earning trust wasn't instant, of course, but at least it was a start.

In this scene, Morroyo meets Tito, the grandson of his Arcanist mentor, Master Rafael. Tito refers to his grandfather as "Lolo". Morroyo is 22 here, in his first year in Limsa. Rafael's son Tomas, a Limsan merchant and explorer is mentioned.

And "K'rhlid" is K'rhlid Tia, future Arcanist guildmaster
"Lolo, he's a Cat Man!" Tito shouted as he ran up to Morroyo. Morroyo's ears flicked back in surprise. "Look at his ears and his tail is long. He looks like K'hrlid, but fluffier!" Rafael chuckled and gave Morroyo an apologetic look. "He can hear you, you know." Morroyo smiled and sat on his haunches. It put him on an even height with the little boy. "And you are?" "I'm Tito. Lolo said you come from the desert! I've never seen sand, except, you know, at the beach." The boy paused. "Am I talking too much again?" Morroyo laughed and reached over to ruffle Tito's hair. "No, I don't mind listening. I have cousins your age. They like to talk too." "Oh, are your cousins as fluffy as you are?" "Even more so." Tito grinned. "Lolo says it's good to meet different people. They can be your friends and I like having friends. It helps because Papa is away so much." Rafael sighed as Morroyo looked puzzled. "Tomas is an explorer and a merchant. He left for the New World not long ago. My grandson stays with me in the meantime." "Ah." Morroyo extended a hand. "I'd like to be your friend, if you want to." Tito's smile widened even more as he took Morroyo's hand. "I'd like that very much."

Morroyo's a bit miffed that Urianger's implying that his memory's not what it used to be. Sure, he may have taken a few knocks on the head as the WoL, but he's not THAT old.

One of my November writing projects. Set in 1553, this happens the night BEFORE Morroyo's arrival in Limsa (Morroyo is 22, long before the start of ARR). You meet his Arcanist mentor, Master Rafael Baquiran here, who is summoned to the scene of a murder.

Master Rafael Baquiran knelt on the hard cobblestones of Hawker's Alley his hand hovering over the corpse of a young woman. The rain had already washed away all traces of blood from the stones. It soaked into Rafael's cloak and mattered the dark brown hair over his eyes. He didn't need sight to see her monstrous injuries. They were horrendous enough, but they weren't his concerns at the moment. "Well, what d'ye make of it?" Rafael heard the question, but didn't answer right away. He passed his hand over the body once, twice, three times, just to make sure. Then he shook his head and finally pulled himself up to his full height. The top of his head barely reached the shoulder of the Roegadyn guard. "Summon Commander Ahtmasyn, if you would be so kind," Rafael replied. The guard's eyebrows shot up "Are y'sure this needs the Commander's attention, Master Baquiran? This looks like just another random killin'-" He tilted his chin up and narrowed his eyes. The guard blinked and took a step back. "'Tis no ordinary killing, my friend. I believe this *does* warrant the Commander's attention. Now, if you please..." The guard snapped to attention, as if in front of a superior office. "Yes, Master Baquiran, at once." Then he took off at a run towards the nearest aetheryte shard. Rafael sighed and shook his head. Limsa Lominsa was a city where pirates held sway and death came quickly in the shadowed alleys. It was a far cry from the Gridanian forests of his home. He wore the robes of an arcanist instead of a conjurer these days, and carried a grimoire instead of a healer's staff. Yet his conjury came in handy during times like this. For it confirmed the evidence, even as his mind struggled to believ eit. He looked at the poor disheveled body at his feet. The woman's face was frozen in an expression of pure terror. The glazed eyes colorless, her skin waxy and pale, her limbs stiff and cold in the Lominsan rain. Something-or someone-had leeched every bit of aether from her. Master Rafael Baquiran, Morroyo's Arcanist mentor. He used to be a conjurer in Gridania before becoming an arcanist in Limsa Lominsa.

"It's time to fry this overgrown squid!" and "Shall the victor be the first to draw blood or the last man standing?" are not exactly 'Morroyo responses'. But...he's getting crochety. 🤣

/2 ...a conjurer-turned-arcanist from *Gridania*, so the name fit. Morroyo adopted Rafael's surname after Rafael's death.

I reverse engineered his Miqo'te birth name from Morroyo to M'hroyo Tia (long story) when I redid his backstory and had him come from the M Tribe. His family calls him "Hroyo".
