Of course, the field has been focused on pruning for too long, disregarding other roles. It's not good for discovery!

Thanks for reaching out! The distinction between hunters or gatherers (culling or scavening) is mechanistic and needs to be experimentally determined. Pruning and gardening are poetic terms but not accurate enough in my opinion. They do not help understanding how microglia actually remove synapses
