"Woke DEI grants at #NSF". A word cloud of ~3,400 grant titles flagged by US Senate Committee Commerce, Science & Transportation as "questionable projects that promoted #DEI or advanced neo-Marxist class warfare propaganda."

Have you played with EnRoads? It's a simulator, not a game, but I enjoy the way you can stack different approaches to see the effects - a very simple interface with lots of detail if you dig in

I expected a cute little phone game about #climate and emissions reductions, and I was wrong. The sheer number of interconnected policies, infrastructure, research options and political allies / foes is daunting and impressive!

Tess was a postdoc (and an amazing colleague to work with!) at @udelaware.bsky.social but her fieldwork was in SC - leading to her current job at @thecitadel1842.bsky.social and a reminder that we often do our best work when we're working somewhere we love

so many "books to read in 2025" lists these days. so here's my reading stack along with the books I meant to read in 2024 but never did, and the books I actually read unplanned. I love a good #TBR pile, but I like to let books find me too. Any recommendations? #booknerd

A cool tool to quickly update NSF COA by @jordan.matelsky.com @upenn.bsky.social - thanks to
@jenbiddle.bsky.social

Input name or ORCID and # of months. Receive csv with names + affiliations of co-authors. It double-counted, but that's an easy filter fix.

that is amazing! I love that oyster farms and swales are tools

I went heavy on green roofed apartments, wetlands, rain gardens, and oyster farms. not surprisingly ... building away from the coast was also a winning strategy :P

Catching up on 2024: Thanks to Carnegie Mellon Civil & Env Engineering for hosting me in their speaker series "Role of Humans in Civil & Environmental Systems.” We need more efforts like this to train students in #interdisciplinary &cross-disciplinary respect! CMU has an incredible community.

New paper out shows levee construction ~ 62% acceleration in floodplain expansion contig US. BUT effect weakens over time due to land use regulations. Nicely sums both the concerns of levee building AND the power of land use.

it's official - I'm an NSF and Kaleta A Doolin Foundation Oceans Decade Champion.

What's REALLY exciting about this is that it means UD will be hosting a climate change themed video game design competition!

Stay tuned for more science geekery + the power of play!

Controlled burn to demolish one of the last homes on the street in #flood #buyout. House built in '50s as summer cottage. Saw 4 generations. Bought out after repeat floods. Owner "would rebuild in a heartbeat" if allowed. Only 3 of 63 homes on street remain.
