Friends!

❤️ I love supporting our tech (& art) communities through community organizing as well as writing and speaking on tech topics.

HOWEVER, I'm a freelancer so I don't get paid 💸 to do any of this! I'm looking to get sponsors to help make this more sustainable.

1/ We might be nearing the end of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. But even if Congress extends #ACAsubsidies, the debate in Washington is way too small. The real issue isn’t actually the subsidies, it’s how completely insane our health care system has become. 🧵

Oh nice I have butternut squash in the garden. I'll make gypsy soup...

Will need chickpeas for the soup so might as well cook up this bag...

Too many chickpeas so let's make hummus...

Too much squash... roasts the rest to use for pie...

Wait can't you eat the seeds?

What little CS knowledge I have was hard won over a long period of time. I still don't really care for it, except where it's pragmatic enough to help me make better decisions while I work.

If you have a similar background to me, this article is your shortcut to more intentional programming.

Research by state! In North Carolina, unaffiliated voters can choose which primary to participate in, which can be considered a benefit of being independent.

So the moral of the story is to check out the rules in your state. For some, it might be better to be affiliated. For others, the opposite.
Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

For big tech, such as Amazon’s recent layoffs, the reason seems to be a combination of cutting headcount to balance increased spending on AI infrastructure and anticipation of (not realized) AI productivity gains.
AI isn't replacing jobs. AI spending is
Big spending on artificial intelligence puts pressure on jobs, as gloomy narratives about the future of work are ironically making new graduates less employable.
