all my takes are deeply unserious, this account will crash out about yaoi
I really hate talking about the Vietnam War, I think Vietnamese culture is beautiful beyond what the West thinks of us (merely war victims). I hope one day they talk about the feudal dynasties or the early Hung Vuong kings instead of 1975.

It's absolutely disgusting what the New York Times, and particularly Azeen Ghorayshi, is doing with its coverage of autism. It's so deeply irresponsible.

It's the same playbook they ran on trans kids.

I don't understand how some people think intelligence = imitation. In order for an AI to be considered "intelligent" it has to imitate living beings, which leads to one billion useless designs as we've known today.
Why are some people so desperate for ChatGPT to be conscious?* If you can have an interesting conversation with someone or something, why would you care if your interlocutor was conscious or not? You only think other people are conscious because you instinctively apply Occam's razor.

* It's not.

I'm sick of everytime people from older generations teach us how to "improve efficiency" with AI or whatever technology that destroys the environment. Of course you wouldn't be concerned about ecological crises, it's not like you have an entire 60 years to live.
I've long assumed that as global warming become more obvious and severe, leaders would come to their senses and ramp up climate action and preparation

But the opposite is happening - and I'm starting to fear that my assumption was naive and wildly wrong

www.newscientist.com/article/2505...
Why is climate action stalling, not ramping up as Earth gets hotter?
As the impact of global warming becomes more obvious, you might expect countries to step up climate action and preparation, but we’re seeing the opposite happen

Our new research evaluates these parks' potential, showing that transitioning China’s overseas industrial parks to clean energy will sharply cut emissions in host countries.

Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

I'm still profoundly irritated with Google's Gmail shenanigans. One of the first principles of good UI/UX design is that you want your interface to be so unobtrusive that users don't have to think about it. If you bury functionality >3 clicks deep, people won't use it.

With the disappointing progress at Cop30, evergreen reminder it isn't "we" or "humanity" failing to address the climate crisis — oil-producing nations and fossil fuel interests are actively obstructing action, despite heroic efforts by developing nations, Indigenous peoples, and many, many others.
End of fossil fuel era inches closer as Cop30 deal agreed after bitter standoff
Wealthy countries should triple funds for countries to tackle climate impacts, but deforestation and critical minerals blocked from final deal

Increasing frequency of disasters means disaster prevention and relief must be embraced by small communities. We can't sit around waiting for the government to do everything especially in the Global South.
