I wrote a rant that addresses EVERY Seattle anti-housing "tree advocate" talking point I have ever seen.

It's long but honestly not THAT long lol. I will be very, VERY happy if 5 people read it.

Come be one of them :)

Anti-housing, self-proclaimed "tree advocates" are missing the forest for the trees - or worse
“I have to wait HOW long?!” One of the five neighborhood kids gathered around me threw their dirt-caked hands up in disbelief. They were gardening for the first time ever and simply refused to believe...

THIS IS NOT A DRILL

TRANSIT RIDERS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE CITY OF SEATTLE
With basically all the ballots in the city of Seattle's mayoral election counted, Katie Wilson is now above 50 percent, with Mayor Bruce Harrell sliding to 49.6 percent. They're currently within the mandatory recount requirements, but machine recounts don't generally change things much.

"[Wilson] supported a capital gains tax to raise revenue, a move opposed by Harrell, stronger protections for renters and improving public transit.

"Fincher said that message resonated in a city where housing has become out-of-reach for many of its citizens."
Progressive on the edge of a win in Seattle mayor race
Katie Wilson pulled ahead of a moderate Democrat in a campaign that focused on the cost of living in one of America’s most-expensive cities.

For taxpayers, every piece of cycling infrastructure is a gift that keeps on giving.

An asset that returns annual savings in congestion, pollution, maintenance, safety and healthcare over its lifetime.

Stop asking whether your city can afford to invest in cycling. Ask whether it can afford not to.

The idea of a mayor who moved to be near a library!
The idea of a mayor who has fought for (and won!) renter protections
The idea of a mayor who wants a robust publicly funded media landscape

I really hope some news outlet covers the widespread threats & intimidation used by Harrell + his team to get orgs and individuals to not support Wilson, or to change their support. It’s just really trash behavior; it’s concerning how many people were scared of him.

Also peak schadenfreude that Bruce won’t get to do arguably the only thing that mattered to him personally as mayor, which is to open the World Cup

Wilson's win means an end to heavy-handed corporate patronage in the mayor's office going back to 2013, a lineage running from the serial child predator who resigned in disgrace to the mayor who inherited all his donors & teargassed the city, to the guy who supported both of them to the bitter end

The last time we elected a grassroots-backed mayor was McGinn in 2009! Since then every mayor we've had has been heavily backed & influenced by Amazon, Expedia, Comcast, CenturyLink, Starbucks, Uber, Vulcan, WA Assoc of Realtors, the Chamber of Commerce, the billionaire owner of the Mariners, etc.

I can't even imagine what it's gonna look like to have an executive who doesn't make big business a senior partner with veto power over her entire policy agenda, but I can assure you that legacy media is gonna be gunning for the Wilson admin from DAY ONE.

We've been 12+ years with a corporate lapdog in the mayor's office, in a city with significantly strong executive authority! The lapdog lineage oversaw the exacerbation of every overlapping historic crisis this city is experiencing! Murray declared a state of emergency on homelessness in ***2015***

Seattle Times' business columnist is having a normal one. (From comments on a gracious post about a potential Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson by former mayor Greg Nickels).

Two million dollars in PAC words bought Harrell a razor thin margin.

52,000 doors knocked by several hundred Wilson volunteers ensured it wasn’t in his favor.

Good job, everyone. Go to Stoup tonight to celebrate.
I’ve seen enough. Congratulations @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social on becoming the 58th Mayor of Seattle.

Katie Wilson's win, plus the massive margins of victory for three progressive City Council candidates (just one incumbent) and a progressive City Attorney candidate suggest an overwhelming mandate for bold policy initiatives on housing and public safety. Let's go, Seattle!

Wow. While we wait for the few remaining ballots to be counted, we feel like we have won this race. The recent drop put us nearly 1,400 votes ahead, just under the .5 percent threshold for a mandatory recount.
