Correct me if I am wrong (I probably am) but it does seem like they are still able to sell bonds. If there is a significant danger of a liquidity crisis, why are they still able to sell bonds?

Its a shame that the claim was '40 aircraft' because now the inclination is to judge the result by that claim.

Unbelievably impressive either way, just a shame that the number was initially inflated.

Do you think the GCAP/ SCAF time scales can be brought forward? I know the GCAP is already on a tight schedule. Would be great to have a proper alternative to F-35 ASAP.

Agree with everything. Very much feels like there are quite a few countries in the EU that still don't see defence of Europe as 'their problem' and so sent prepared to commit to Ukr or even adequate defence spending. Without punitive measures, to bring these counties in line, this isn't sustainable.

With the US changing sides and Europe making it painfully obvious that they don't want to make up for the loss in aid, there is no reason for Putin not to go for and get maximal aims now.

What a complete unmitigated disaster.

You stand with your allies, at this point that means giving up neutral status.

Why expect everyone else to shoulder the burden of the defence of Europe?

UK and Germany as well as others manufacture advanced weapons outside of ITAR.

ASRAAM was specifically upgraded to a standard no longer privvy to ITAR for instance.

Guessing Austria get a pass because they are 'neutral' though?

It may feel good to say that, but you may actually want to look at a chart before saying that:

This has been apparent for a while

Sadly Russia has a modern and formidable submarine fleet that would be a pain even for the US to deal with. Overall numbers don't matter if you can't reliably deal with that and the air/land launched ASM threat.

I think you are giving Elon too much credit here.

There is a bit of friendly fire going on here.

If there is anything you shouldn't worry about, it's Oreshnik. If good intentioned, scared people start demanding an answer to it, it may get more people killed.

I sympathise, i don't mean any offense.
January 20, 2025 at 6:39 AM
To put it into perspective, in order to intercept similar missiles, the US uses THAAD which is $1bn+ for a single battery and it can only defend a small area.

Oreshnik did next to no damage in its first strike and hasn't been seen since while more mundane munitions kill every day.
January 20, 2025 at 6:34 AM
Because if you use that money to provide more coverage against shaheds/ s300/ Iskander/ cruise missiles, it will save more Ukrainian civilians.

MIRVs with decoys are unbelievably expensive to intercept, you are better off intercepting more of everything else instead.
January 20, 2025 at 6:25 AM
No point in worrying about an inaccurate system built in tiny numbers.

Until it's got nukes on it all Oreshnik has got is it looks flashy and wastes rubles.
January 20, 2025 at 6:11 AM
And I'm sure everyone who disagrees with you is just a bigot, desperate to hold on to their evil ways.
January 14, 2025 at 2:01 PM
The fact you can say one of these once to a colleague in jest, and have your entire career go up in smoke because someone overheard and was required to report to the BSB/ FCA etc is ludicrous.

These terms should be restricted in use, but the punishment should also fit the crime.

That would be nearly 6% of the Chechen population, so up to 20% of the working age male population.
