There are similar devices appearing in the JD 1985 annual, searching for explosives planted in citiblocks - a bit more manageable, like spy in the skies but looking like hovering noses!

Nope, but there was a prequel in the 1978 annual (White Fury) and cameos in other stories (but which are set so much later that they can't be the same bear).

I keep getting that as well - one person made a post about not having to work again for the rest of the year, but as I saw that three days in to 2024 it didn't have quite the same resonance as the last day of 2023...
