Middle School Math Teacher. Trying to change the approach to Math Intervention. Desmos Classroom Fellow, Cohort 5.
@mathforlove.bsky.social can’t wait to see your presentations at the Montana Teachers’ Convention. I used your prime factor circles in @polypad.bsky.social to teach concepts in my math intervention classes. Looking forward to learning more.

@alyankovic.bsky.social thank you for a great concert in Montana. My wife and I both have enjoyed your music since we were young. To share tonight with our daughter was extra special. You and your band were amazing.

@meninblazers.bsky.social has anyone heard from Rog? Will we see him in some highlights streaking on the pitch at Goodison?

#iTeachMath #MathSky results from my classes’ Super Bowl Prop Bets activity. They would have lost almost $700 if we would have bet their picks. Glad I’m to cheap to bet.

#EduSky #iTeachMath Students pushed back today on changing mixed numbers to fractions before dividing them. I finally showed them the first 3 steps to dividing while leaving them as mixed numbers. All but 1 student caved after seeing this.

Just updated my Super Bowl Prop Bets activity for this year. If you use it let me know how your class does. #iTeachMath #MathSky teacher.desmos.com/activitybuil...

Totally agree with Kathy. Being a Desmos Fellow is the best thing that has happened in my career. Take the chance and apply.
Math friends - Amplify Desmos Math has just opened up applications for their next group of Fellows. Being a Desmos Fellow has been the best PD I have done in 25 years. It’s an incredible community.

Please consider applying!

Today was the first day of my Math Lab kids making beadwork earrings. We did a lesson on Rigid transformations in Native American beadwork and the history of beadwork before this. Here are some pictures. #iteachmath #mtbos

I was doing a Desmos Classroom lesson today on proportional relationships. I asked “If you buy 4 lbs. of chicken tenders how much does it cost?” Most of the class says “$0”. One kid says “$5”. I then went into how when you order and there is a shipping fee that is not proportional. 1/2

Yesterday I was doing the Paint activity from Amplify Desmos Math 7th grade. Had a student come up with a really neat challenge. I solved it using some number flexibility. How would you solve this? #iTeachMath

Super excited. Next week I’m teaching my Native American Beadwork and Geometry activity. The week after two teachers from our Indigenous Education Department are coming in to do a small breading project with them. Pictures will be posted. #iTeachMath

I used @fawnnguyen.bsky.social visual patterns to make an activity to teach graphing. I think I have too much on screen 5. Any suggestions to fix It? #iTeachMath teacher.desmos.com/activitybuil...

Question for any open middle people out there. I am starting to use it with my 8th grade math intervention classes. What is the feeling on letting kids use calculators on these problems?

Last Wednesday it was 70 and I wore shorts to work. Today it’s 17 and snowing. Nothing like a Montana fall😂

#MathSky #ITeachMath I have a couple of 8th graders who still add by counting on their fingers. Anyone have a resource I can use with them that they won’t think is too “childish”? I’m searching. On my own but would love some feedback.

I just found out that due to a new state law I need parent permission slips to have my students participate in MathCounts. Not the Chapter competition, just to practice at school. I’m shaking my head.

I had a disagreement with an instructional coach this week. I spend about half my time with my intervention kids supporting what they do in their regular math class. She thinks I should not be teaching grade level content, only remediating. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I was doing the Mini Golf Marbleslide today. One kid had the marbles get stuck on top of the circle on Hole 3. Everyone else had the marbles slide off the sides except for him. Poor kid spent 15 minutes trying to get it to work.
