TypeScript is a psychology experiment designed to see if you can read "the JavaScript API you know and love, but with the safety of strong typing!" and get so distracted by how much you like strongly typed languages that you forget that you do not, in fact, neither know nor love the JavaScript API

I really do not get the general urge among online academics to dunk on X area for discovering what Y area has known for decades. There are many reasons why this is unscholarly. To name a few:

1. Most scientists don't perform interdisciplinary research because it's explicitly disincentivized.

I once asked a very skilled and experienced rower how people who make every boat they are in better do it. He said that he'd known two people like that, and they weren't the fastest or stronger rowers, but their superpower was adding stability where the boat needed it. Not something you'd see ...

Designer: That's great! Let's talk about accessibility

Business leader: Oh, I didn't mean it like *that*

"Selling Out Is Bad" is a valuable concept and despite all the baggage and bullshit and elitism it could contain it's actually really good to reinforce the ideal that having integrity when it matters, especially when it hurts, is what good/cool people do. Should be adapted instead of jettisoned.

I cannot overstate how important it is, right now, to think of information as a) something you transmit and pass along instead of just receiving; b) something that is more useful to others when passed on for its own sake than when wrapped in media or Discourse criticism.

I swear to god I'm going to end up with a t-shirt of this quote -- it's come up basically every other day since I first saw it, including in non-computing contexts 😭

A lot's been said about indie devs being discouraged by Silksong. I don't want to invalidate those feelings, especially in such a stressful time, but I do want to quickly speak to another side of it. (1/)

In order for your design to be successful, you have to get me to log in.

Designers who don't understand that the job is to change behaviors will build the product first, get upset when no one is using it, and bully the user into it after the fact. It will be bad UX by definition.
