Things that interest me: most sports - I'm big into fantasy football, college basketball, Cubs baseball, and Michigan football/bball, lefty politics, music - all variations of rock and Americana, movies & TV, anything that distracts from the hellscape
No, college payrolls are not gonna rival NFL payrolls. The most expensive NCAA rosters right now are ~$40M. There are 15 NFL QBs who make $45M per year or more. The NFL salary cap has increased by like $55M over the last 2 years. The gap is getting wider, not smaller.

It's still up

Meanwhile, I'm not seeing a whole lot of downward movement on this NYC population graph:

He's still not as offputting as Hakeem Jeffries, so it can always get worse.

The live cow prices also started dropping pretty much immediately after Trump decided to import more beef from Argentina
November 7, 2025 at 9:21 PM
The black dot is on the day that it was first reported that Trump was considering importing Argentine beef (Oct. 20th).

On October 24th, he announced that the US is going to quadruple Argentine beef imports this year.

Live cattle prices are down in the last couple weeks, although the catalyst for that is most likely Trump announcing that the US is going to import more beef from Argentina.
November 7, 2025 at 9:14 PM
Here's the price of live cattle over the last year. That black dot I drew is the day when Trump first talked about the possibility of importing beef from Argentina.

A few days later, Trump said he's going to quadruple Argentine beef imports.

I ate at one of these restaurants - probably 15+ years ago in Kalamazoo.

The only thing I remember about it now though is that they had their own exclusive Leinenkugel beer on tap called like Island Ale or Beach Ale or something like that.

Horror movies already face an uphill fight to put up huge box office numbers because they don't appeal to as broad of an audience as other genres, but that fight gets even harder when the movie gets no promotion. I can't remember seeing a single ad for this film.

Venom: The Last Dance and Kung Fu Panda 4 were both directed by women and were top-12 in global box office in 2024, but yeah, there's not a lot else that got enough promotion to even have the potential to be a blockbuster (maybe Madame Web?)

I want to see one called the 'ICE Breaker'

After Shane Bieber exercised a $16M 1-year option earlier this week, I figured if the Cubs wouldn't risk Shota accepting the QO if they really wanted to move on from him.
November 6, 2025 at 10:25 PM
This is interesting on Shota. I think there's a very real chance that he accepts the QO and stays a Cub.
November 6, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Just baffling they didn't trade him for prospects at the deadline if this was the plan. The Rays were 2 games under .500 at the deadline.

Share of total popular vote...

Trump in presidential election - 49.8%
Mamdani in New York mayoral election - 50.4%

Three words that are making the Trump economy hit home for a lot of people: "Open enrollment season"
November 6, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Yeah...it's not great that even if we take the WH at their word on it, it's still a net negative from where we were in 2024.

So he tanked the soybean export market in 2025 to get China to commit for the next 3 years to spending 20% less per year on US soybeans than they did in 2024.

4D chess, amirite?
November 6, 2025 at 9:18 PM
The deal that he made with China amounts to just under $4.9B worth of soybeans being sold to them this year, and a commitment to buy just under $10.2B worth per year for next 3 years (at current soybean prices).

Last year, we sold $12.8B worth of soybeans to China.

Though I still think they won't extend the QO here
November 6, 2025 at 7:57 PM
Are you assuming Shota doesn't get a QO?

I saw a Bleacher Nation article that explained that if they'd picked up his option, it would've increased the posting fee that got paid to his Japanese club, and would've essentially been 3 yrs/$66M.

Wonder if Cubs would be more open to that AAV for 1 year
