I'm in Alabama @bluesky. Why am I getting the Mississippi treatment?

This is probably the most stark image from the Airborne River Survey of the Green River of #kentucky. You think you have a mental picture of what floods look like, then you get this image. The mostly flooded town of Calhoun, KY is featured center of image.

#noaa Twin Otter imaged the Major #flooding on the Green River #KY yesterday. It's utterly amazing how much water remains. https://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/snowsurvey/photos/flythroughs/2025/river_survery_0265_green_river_part_1/index.html

Significant, generational and historic #flooding across the Ohio River Valley following multiple days of heavy rainfall and severe storms. You can see the extent of the flooding in the Sentinel-1 #sar derived flood mapping I made in support of operations here […]

Brought out a vintage Marathon Government Issued #watch today. It's a mechanical wind, has a very satisfying ting ting ting sound, and a super smooth second hand sweep. Super tiny though..

Did you know that you can package a complete #qgis :qgis: project (incl. all your layers and data) in a single #geopackage file, e.g. to move it to another system?

Practical examples, on the new hub:

Ever wonder what snow in the swamp would look like? This is 5 miles into the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya basin... it's unreal... having lived down there for the first 28 years of my life, we never saw anything like this.

Smashed records.

Interesting look at the Mississippi River in #sentinel1 #sar adjacent to Herculaneum, MO. In this multi-temporal false-color composite, the yellow line is the rough and exposed ice edges left in the wake of a ship breaking through the much smoother sheet ice […]

Any #GIS folks handy with #openlayers? I feel like a total dingbat, but I cannot find any reference on how to make a layer switcher in OpenLayer v10. A checkbox to turn on or off a layer is all I'm trying to do...

The ECMWF Shift of Tails Extreme Forecast Index is a very esoteric statistical anlaysis. For the layperson, a shift of tails of 2 usually means we are dealing with an extreme event. Shift of Tails of 8...it's kinda out there.

Lazy Saturday morning mucking about in #r. Everything feels new again, I haven't used R since rgdal was retired so learning how to work with #geospatial data in this environment without it is kind of fun. I'm surprised how much faster R terra seems to handle 10 and 30m processed Sentinel-1 SAR […]

@pop_os For the first time since I converted my Lenovo Yoga 9 to linux, I can effortlessly type without my cursor getting randomly moved to a different line or position thanks to Pop_OS! and COSMIC DE. No other Ubuntu based distribution actually ever honored the "turn off touch pad while […]

Not for nothing, but the COSMIC desktop environment for #pop_os! #linux is kinda gorgeous. #System76 is really knocking his out of the park.

Nothing is as humbling as running to the bathroom only for your sweatpants' pocket to get hung up on the doorknob. I didn't know if the door or me was going to break first. I gave the dog a serious concern with that stunt.

With #Sentinel-1C safely ensconced in her orbit, here's a look at the #riverice on the Tanana River of #alaska from her sister-ship Sentinel-1A last night. Cheers and congratulations #esa for the successful return to flight of #VegaC .

Working on a #flood occurrence proxy project using #sentinel2 imagery. Classify water pixels for every frame in the Sentinel-2 collection then sum the occurrences. Even with cloudiness restricted to cloud free images, still getting more than 100 observations from 2019 to present.
