So if passed next year, grocery tax would go down 0.2 %, but gas tax would go up 5% and sales tax would go up 1.5%. Tax increase 6.5. Tax decrease 0.2. Net increase 6.3%.

NEW: The Mississippi House has voted to eliminate the state's income tax, ultimately amounting to a $2.2 billion reduction.
The bill would be partly offset by a new gas tax.
