A photograph of Rash Behari Bose and his Japanese family, on his return to Japan in 1944 after passing on the baton of leadership of the Indian National Army to Subhas Chandra Bose. I believe Rash Behari Bose’s daughter, Tetsuko, and parents-in-law Sōma Aizō and Sōma Kokko are both in the picture.

It was wonderful to meet Professor Prasenjit Duara and fascinating to listen to and learn from his most recent research on global environmental movements in the Mekong river valleys in China and mainland Southeast Asia.

I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to attend the AAS Conference in Columbus! I’m very glad with how my panel on transnational anticolonialism in Asia came together. I am grateful to my panel chair Dr. Cindy Ewing & panel organizer Zhen Hao Liew as well as co-panelists Muhammad Suhail & Mahia Bashir.

My father passed away on February 13 last year after a heroic twenty month battle with glioblastoma. In his memory, I made a donation to the National Brain Tumor Society. Glioblastoma has no known cause and no known cure. I hope a cure will be discovered in the future. 🙏

Friedrich List (1789-1846), a 19th century German economist, who isn’t very well-known today, but who arguably has been deeply influential. He promoted the ideas of economic nationalism and state-centric industrialization. His ideas influenced many societies across the ideological spectrum.
