Yesterday we roamed around Death Valley visiting the sand dunes, a mining ghost town and an old borax mining operation. Not sure what I was expecting, but Death Valley surprised us with it's beauty!

Yesterday was a trip up the mountain on the world’s largest rotating tram car tram. It was a spectacular ride over the cliffs of the Chino Canyon up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park. Then we met Marilyn and toured the art museum in Palm Springs.

Yesterday we spent at Joshua Tree National Park. Such interesting geography. And did you know, Joshua trees are not really trees? They are succulents, in the agave family.

Yesterday we moved on from Yuma to Palm Springs, stopping on the way to see up close and personal, our taxpayer dollars at work: the border wall. Then we stopped at the Colorado River basin-Salton Trough dunes and the Salton Sea. Lots of interesting geology here.

Yesterday we headed to Yuma, AZ, moving out of the beautiful Saguaro Desert and into the Mojave, which is similar to the Chihuahua Desert where we live. We visited the Yuma Terrirorial Prison where we had a docent tour of the 2nd most haunted building in America. Very interesting history!

My favorite flavors of Cambodia. And so much more we didn't have time for.

Our last day in Cambodia. Maybe too short. Next time longer stay!
October 25, 2025 at 5:15 AM
A couple more temples this morning and an ox cart ride we nicknamed our Cambodian massage!

Morning tea on the balcony of our hotel in Cambodia.

Today we visited Angkor Wat and several other temples. Did you know Angkor Wat is the biggest Hindu temple complex in the world? Also, did you know there are around 300 temples in and around the Angkor zone, many, many have yet to be recovered from the jungle? Bucket list, ✔️ for me!

Yesterday we arrived in Cambodia. On our way to our hotel we stopped at an aquarium and wildlife sanctuary where they are trying to protect endangered Cambodian specific species from extinction. We had a wonderful private tour with the aquarium guide, Yet. They are doing marvelous work here. ❤️

This is something interesting here in Thailand. People, locals and visitors, rent costumes of old Thailand, get their hair and makeup done, then pose for photos at temples. I saw this in Bangkok and here in Ayutthaya as well. Sometimes it feels like you're on a movie set.

We arrived in Ayutthaya, the capital of Thailand from 1350 until it was destroyed in 1767 by the Burmese (now Myanmar) during war. The city is filled with the ruins of once magnificent temples. Most of the statues of Buddha were beheaded and arms cut off. I was both amazed and deeply saddened.

In the afternoon we visited the ethical elephant sanctuary. We made food, fed it to the elephants and gave them a bath in the River Kwai. There are many of these sanctuaries in Thailand. It was a wonderful experience!

Yesterday we took a local train through the countryside. Beautiful scenery and farmland where they grow rice, tapioca, and corn. Then a cave where Buddhist monks would rest and get out of the heat on journeys. Local people also honor the Buddha there. Then stopped for lunch on the River Kwai.

And check out my boa! Oh! Wait! That's a python! Some lighthearted fun in Thailand (although I have friends who would disagree about the "fun" part)

We visited the Death Raiway Museum where the building of the Thai-Burma Railway during World War II is painstakingly curated. 60,000 Allied POWs and an estimated 100,000 Asian civilians constructed this railway under Japanese oppression. Heartbreaking and an important reminder of the costs of war.
