40-ish woman, background in biomedical science. Fond of manners, kindness, modesty and rational thinking. Oh, and genealogy. Chronically melancholic but not entirely cynical. 🏳️‍🌈+🏳️‍⚧️ safe; wanting a world where that goes without saying.
Australians have some mouths on us, but nothing prepared me for Coatbridge. It's not the language itself, it's the fact that it included those older than my grandparents!

Also India, there's screenshots going around of GC types arguing over whether they'd gone too far with an awful wiki-ish hate site that had you on it. I've seen you say before that you're not bothered by pre-transition stuff, but this site looked nauseatingly vile.
Please take care of yourself.

It sounds the same as when trans kids pleaded with lawmakers in the US. They sit there, they listen to them, but they don't actually care. Once everyone is gone, they go straight back to working against them.
Cruel, sociopathic behaviour.

Oh, I thought they must have been talking about former comedian, misogynistic bigot and Rob Schneider employee, Graham Linehan.

I didn't realise there was another one out there.

She claims unawareness of the recent JS issue, but the flippant and arrogant replies she makes despite people explaining their concerns and alternatives is certainly... something.

This is a senior researcher and journalist for the SPLC?
I wonder how long until the so-called "senior moments" start.

Where was the national taskforce when Nazis comfortably saluted ON THE STEPS OF THE VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT in front of police?
Including the known son of a VicPol officer and others tattooed with the same symbol featured on the Christchurch killer's manifesto?
Traitors to my grandparent's generation.

Were they actual people? There's a few bot accounts out there trying to bait people into arguments for whatever unpleasant social engineering purposes they've been created for. Harvesting training data for later, maybe?
If someone shows even the faintest hint of bad faith arguments, I just block.
#BadActorBingo note for the morning: the last few days have seen an increase in accounts that automate "Reply Guys as a service" by pulling random posts and having ChatGPT write a comment that superficially agrees but pivots to trying to start a fight halfway through.

Consistent moderation rules are vital. But malicious actors game them, and you have to be willing to go sicko mode on them, letting them rules-lawyer you from the phantom zone.

There are downstream effects from such a maneuver that benefit the platform.

Deeply confusing and wounding time for her children? Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't she quite prominently state that she keeps them isolated through home-schooling?

Or did they accidentally see mum on TV when the rally was joined by the shorts-and-SAOs brigade?

They probably would have if I asked. It had been a while, so they had to get quite close to the gum-line.
It's worth the clean feeling at the end!

Last time I went, the cleaning was more painful than a root canal I had 20 years earlier. Blood everywhere. She even told me "this will be far more fun for me than it will be for you".

I was so proud.

I'm sure that this is all completely unrelated to every far-right misogynist and celebrity sex-pest never-was suddenly identifying as trad-Cath and declaring the Pope to be "too woke".

"Hi, allow me introduce... Elizabeth?.. Jane?.. Mary?.. Ann?.. No? Oh, must be Catherine then."

"Irish Protestants? Why yes, how did you guess?"

It's a long, proud history for The Guardian. I can't even remember a time when they haven't freely allowed the likes of Bindel and Greer to spread their dehumanising contempt for trans people.

Certainly well before the Tufton-sponsored hate wave of the last decade.

I'm no expert in body language, but she seemed to be using an awful lot of micro-expressions often associated with people when they're being not entirely honest.

Although maybe she just looks like that all the time.

Yuck, those headlines and first paragraphs.
Excuse me for forgetting just how bad the UK papers can get.

So if they're manufacturing hate against a group and not an individual, they can just say whatever they want? Frame it as they want?
No laws were ever implemented to prevent history repeating?

We used them up until the late 2010s. More than $1000 in the drawer? Bag and chute.
There's still lots of physical cash in supermarkets today, but now they throw their hands up and say "oh well, we have insurance". Then they wonder why premiums now go through the roof instead of cash bags.

Without an ad blocker, how many are being discouraged to click through anyway? Ads, "wait don't leave, do you want to join our mailing list for exclusive offers?!", autoplaying videos on unrelated topics. It's all so obnoxious.
And of course, the article authors rarely write the headlines.
