Portland fire chief finalist poses w/ cigar & Portland firefighters union T-shirt in IG post days after city job offer.

I ask if he's gotten the job. He responds:

“I’m not sure why any post that I have made would indicate anything of that nature."

3 days later, he withdraws.

Wasn't until this morning that I realized Councilor Mitch Green was riffing on the Big Lebowski last night after Steve Novick lambasted his omnibus proposal as “the Green nihilism amendment.”

My write-up of this week's marathon council budget meeting. 👇

Brutal bike crash coming off the Hawthorne Bridge into downtown.

Tires hit the new textured yellow lane divider in the rain. Went face-first into the guardrail.

Hanging out in the Providence ER with a softball-sized welt.

Fingers crossed I don’t have a concussion!

Update: Text messages sent between Field and county spox Julie Sullivan-Springhetti on Feb. 4 show Field disclosed his intention to retire weeks before shortfall announcement.

"I want to have a 'no drama' departure... a footnote rather than a headline."

Portland Doom Loop?

Nah, says Mayor Keith Wilson.

"We need every day champions of 'boom loop' thinking."

A month after MultCo Chair Jessica Vega Pederson's disastrous rollout and announcement of a massive homeless services spending shortfall, we apparently finally have the fall guy:

Homeless Services Department Director Dan Field to "retire" June 16.

Portland recorded just three homicides during the first two months of 2025.

The city logged three additional killings during a 12-hour period between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Our blue jay friend has been nesting in a tree in our backyard for several years.

This morning, my wife and I spotted our squirrel friend — another backyard inhabitant — stone-cold chillin’ in blue jay’s nest.

Is this strange sensation my cold, flint heart beginning to warm?

Portland voters approved a strict campaign finance law. A city watchdog wants to soften it

Worth sticking around for the part where officials w/ the Portland auditor's office met w/ Oregon House Speaker staff & two public employee unions to discuss changes.

Seated on the carpeted second floor of the Portland Building, making calls, filing copy and eating snacks — almonds, beef jerky, tangerine — like a Kindergartener.

Exquisite morning on the Portland waterfront.

Opera House -> Sellwood -> Tilikum -> Steel -> Hawthorne -> Opera House.

Hundreds of runners out. Families & kids. Park rangers making the rounds & crews picking up refuse.

Lots of smiles, waves & posi vibes.

This album definitely cooks but is also endlessly hilarious, given its billing as a “Greatest Hits” record for a guy who composed 600-plus songs before dying at the age of 31.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson says his plan to dramatically increase emergency overnight shelter beds / add 4 day shelters to "end" unsheltered homelessness would cost $28M next year, per a planned presentation.

Unclear how much of that factors into city's projected $100M deficit.
