Lovely essay on @reactorsff.bsky.social by Asa West about two encounters with Vincent Ward's THE NAVIGATOR separated by decades, how memories play games with us and why that thing you kinda remember is worth hunting out.

I went to a party full of lovely people. I'm hoping that makes me lovely.
Tired, and lovely, but too hyped up to sleep. My usual wake time is before 5am. It's 2am. Monday is going to be fun. Fun and lovely, let's hope. Cheers to you, lovely

Person was shaking and almost crying because he was invited to walk on a flag which, to some other people, carries a symbol of crimes against their nation/people, the way a confederate flag does for others, or, u know, a swastika does

Sometimes at dusk I walk around and look (ok snoop) through people's windows, after they turn on lights and before they close the curtains. This poem just out in the lovely Dawntreader (from @indigodreamspub.bsky.social) is in part about that - in part about heartache.

I do 20 hour days, 7 days a week, wake up at 430 am & get hit with a lead pipe, & I'm getting better every day, y'know? Just the extreme levels of emotional intelligence & focus that I bring to my mission. Also, my wiiife. But the thing is, some leaders, say John Key for example, I'm built different

I love the intersection between poetry and science.

Here we have the physics of the heart balancing between knowing and unknowing, love and loss, presence and disappearance.

Every line hums with quiet wonder and the ache of trying to hold what won’t stay still.

The problem is almost nobody fucking asked for or wants AI, yet now it's in everything. No, I don't want an AI summary of my Google search. No, I don't want AI on my Zoom call while it's happening. Fuck off. Get out of my face. It's smothering me and thinks that's love. It makes me hate it more.

Every use-case people think they "need" and LLM for is actually papering over a different issue. The teacher using ChatGPT to write narrative reports bc the demand is unreasonable & overwhelming *actually* needs more support and/or compensation or a reduction of demand. It's a LABOR issue.

This does point to an expanded possibility, i.e. if we try hard enough we could actually get AI to declare NZ isn’t real. We’re already not on lots of maps.

If we are to hold this coalition to account with the same benchmark as the last govt, not hitting a well laid out target should have consequences.
