Greens wanting to *increase* corporate tax rate.
That’s utterly absurd.

Who do they want to create jobs and exports for our country?!

The LAST thing they should be doing is making it harder to run a business in NZ.
May 14, 2025 at 3:08 AM
There is a reason why people label the Greens as hating business. You don’t have to be right wing to see that. Increasing the corporate tax rate does not incentivise business growth in NZ. Instead there would be less jobs and exports. 🙄 Then less tax. Then less ability to pay for their promises.

On prisoner voting - populist views will largely support any further punishment of offenders. That doesn’t mean gut reactions align with the outcomes we want to see.
I’m not suggesting this is the largest protective factor. Not by any means. But the link is there. Why ignore it?

NZ Govt defies logic and civic rights. Currently only prisoners serving a sentence of less than 3 years can vote. This is logical since they will be out in the community under the following Govt. & prisoners voting can reduce reoffending. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

I agree with these important comments. Generally the level of public discourse has been heading in an ever more toxic/abusive direction. Where hate and vitriol from all corners has become normalised.
It is a societal issue we must address if we want good people in public offices
"-particularly in online spaces. It is to her credit that she got on with the job in spite of it. This sort of abuse discourages good people from standing for public office and it needs to stop."

Nicola Willis just announced the tightest budget since Bill English’s ‘zero’ budget of 2012. She just cut the 2025/26 operating allowance from $2.4 billion to $1.3 billion. Treasury said in December that over $1 billion was already pre-committed, which means there’s now $0.3 billion left. 1/n
Cutting even deeper against the grain

I also made the mistake of mentioning on Twitter that I’m a lawyer. I forgot how much disdain some people have for the profession. I’ll try remember that next time ha

NZ’s housing affordability crisis will not magically improve because of the removal of council inspections for selected “simple” builds. If these changes indeed speed up delivery and reduce costs then that of course is to be commended. It’s hard not to have some level of skepticism though

NZ’s leaky building crisis has left such a deep mark, whenever it is mentioned people have strong reactions.
Blame games a plenty.
I’m not saying past mistakes will be repeated, but it is fair to be concerned with changes to the regulatory framework

Also think it would be cool to have a wildly different algorithm here than on X. Like maybe I should be really into science? Or sports? Or… any ideas?

Hi, 👋🏼 I’m new here! So thought I’d leave a message for the algorithm maker-my politics are not left or right, please don’t put me in an echo chamber, I like to see what people with opposing views say. I don’t think life is fair for so many who are struggling each year, and that needs to change 🙏🏼
