The exciting Saturday night of a sewist: getting comfy with a stack of Japanese pattern books! I was impressed with how fast the books got to me. I placed my order with the Japanese Creative Bookstore on May 18 and the package arrived today, May 24! #sewing #japanesesewingbook

My morning sewing student couldn't make it, so I made quilted bunny faces 🐰🐰🐰.

I don't know why it took me so long to digitize my logo, but I finally got it done this morning.

The March prompt for the OKCMQG challenge was Three and Green. A shamrock is probably too obvious of a choice! I drew the leaves by writing a 3 and then making a the leaf shape. So my piece has the number 3, three leaves, and green. #quiltsky #textileart

Sunflowers on a field of blue. IYKTK. I call this technique thread scribbling since I free motion stitch all the pieces.

My sewing student this morning had a beautiful Bernina she got from her grandmother. It stitched like a dream and so did my student. Her first sewing project ever was this lovely tufted pin cushion ♥️🪡. #sewsky #quiltsky

I feel like I'm about to ditch Meta. I've done it before with no ill effects. It is helpful in connecting with people who want sewing lessons & many guilds/groups I'm in use FB as a primary means of communication. Anyway, here's today's micro vlog.

My Saturday started early with a sewing lesson, but after that I puttered about the studio tidying up and organizing. The weather was lovely, so I got to take a couple of walks around the Paseo. #quiltsky #sewsky #art

I was so happy to get out of the house and into the studio. I completed the Phoenix, and I'll make a longer video about it soon. Final title for the piece is "Rise Up."

Today I finished listening to Sharon Blackie's "The Enchanted Life." I give it 10/10. Although it was written 2018, I think it's never been more timely. I especially appreciated her words about myth since my current textile art focus is on myths and fairy tales.

I've finished the feathers and the legs on the Phoenix. I used a variegated thread on the legs and am please with how they came out. Next up will be the tail/flames. I'm embracing the resilience of the Phoenix with every slow stitch of this project.

I had a sewing student this morning who has not attempted to sew since she was a child. She did such a great job! I can't wait to see what she makes next. #sewsky #learntosew

More work on the Phoenix. I've stitched all the red and green bits and am working on the blue. I like the way his belly looks! I started using shimmery threads but didn't like them. I'm using silk and cotton threads now. #quiltsky #art #fiberart

The Phoenix has been painted and fused to the background fabric. Next step is the fun part: embellishing! I'll be adding beads and quilting with shiny threads. The final piece will be mounted on a 9x12 stretched canvas. #quiltsky #art #fiberart

I started another piece that I should have started sooner. I was unmotivated until a late night spark of inspiration. This is the first pass of Inktense pencils & water on a Phoenix image printed on fabric. More details to be added. Second pic is other textiles I'll use in this art quilt. #quiltsky
