Like realistically he probably kills TikTok by merging it with X and making it worse

A funny possibility is that Elon buys TikTok and also renames it X.

And more broadly: I really like how stories from other cultures can have a viewpoint that isn't the same Christian-influenced, deontological one we get all the time in the US.

I'm glad that there's no surgery that can fix Andreessen's head. They should try anyway.

Lately it's feeling like Nietzsche was wrong about the "long" part of looking into an abyss.

It's really funny how many people swear that Tiktok has the great algorithm also have the most performative politics unbounded by the ability to get results. But it's also really disconcerting.

It is a little funny to see a senior tech guy on here brag about poaching talent from Meta by having "supportive management" and "not being a dick" when they have an especially hostile interview process.

The world would look very different if any of these guys had a hobby other than drug abuse.

The guy who wants to live forever wants that life to do...what? He has no idea. More hasn't made him happy yet, so he must not have gotten enough. Just a little more should do it.
I think that being a billionaire selects for the emptiest personalities. So they try to just run up the score board thinking the next billion, or ten, or hundred will make them feel something.

The question for people who say that TikTok isn't any worse than other short form video sites is: why didn't Vine disrupt therapists' ability to do their jobs?
I suspect some of it'll happen just by leaving TikTok. Basically anywhere else is better than the fake mental illness petri dish.

Absolutely hate to see Eric Weinstein name-checked, but it is funny to see a billionaire whine that his friends deserve Nobels.
All I can say about this Peter Thiel op-ed in the Financial Times is that it reads like something he actually wrote. No comms team or AI chatbot is capable of producing this strange paranoid string of sentences www.ft.com/content/a46c...

Walter Cronkite is dead. Stop mourning the monoculture just because the right wing started dancing on its grave along with the left lol. Start building social cohesion after the monoculture. The world only spins forward.

South Korea’s information environment is far worse and is dominated by far right weirdos who want to end women’s right to vote and Yoon is at 5% approval bunkering in his apartment currently.

The thing about "many new users" is it's essentially not possible. Zuck has said a lot of stupid and evil things, but this is totally delusional.

There's disagreement in meditation circles about this. In Rob Burbea's "Seeing That Frees" (a meditation manual that's heavily influenced by Mahayana sources) he makes a similar argument to this post and explicitly says that if you are conscious you're conceptualizing to some degree.

also, like, all of us are going to have to get better news discipline again. it’s not actually important news that trump holds a press conference and “refuses to rule out” invading half a dozen countries. he’s a liar and an idiot and a blowhard and keeping you tuned in is the only thing he’s good at
most of what he’s promising now requires congress to actually do, so, like, every time he says something about seizing greenland or declaring war on canada, you should remind yourself what the republican margin in the house is
I possess the (apparently rare) ability to remember what it was like to have Trump as president. So I recall that so much of his "policy" shit posting went nowhere.

Everything being breathlessly reported right now is 🙄. Eager for post Jan 20 when you can point to the lack of any official action.

If you don't follow MMA, it's sort of hard to express how incompetent and stupid Dana is. He consistently makes decisions that go against his and the UFC's interests. He's not the kind of Trump loyalist to worry about.
Zuckerberg continues to do everything and anything possible to ingratiate himself with Trump. Today he named Dana White, the president of the UFC, to Meta's board. White is one of Trump's closest allies and introduced Trump and the Republican National Convention.

The coup had a clear goal, and it was not "get back into office four years from now after winning the popular vote"
The coup was not successful. Trump had to get back into office the hard way. But on a larger scale, the coup proved that the Republican Party doesn't need the United States. It doesn't need the law. It doesn't need the facts. All it needs is time & anger & fear. It's a dark path we're on.
The January 6 attempted coup was ultimately successful. The American people did not care or worse were fine with it. Many if not all of those who participated will be pardoned. The Biden administration and specifically Merrick Garland let them get away with it by their fecklessness and apathy

It's strange how, in some online spaces, the thinking has gone from "weight has no effect on health" to "people are only allowed to lose weight if it's difficult".
GLP-1 hormone research goes back to the 1970's, its testing to treat diabetes goes back to 1993, phase II clinical trials for Ozempic go back to 2008.

Your desire to see others punished for losing weight 'the wrong way' is ignorant, mean spirited, and most importantly a tired & lousy joke
can’t wait for all those class-action lawsuits in 5-10 years when we see what the actual long-term effects of ozempic are
