Educator, social reformer and dad pursuing "liberty and justice for all." Democracy is a verb.
This was a life changing text to study, and it explains so much of what was to come post-Brown, and where we are with “achievement gaps” today.

You can’t look at all this sweep of history and not advocate for reparations.

Orion over NYC, my dude. Not ablaze, but still watching us.

On the surface, the alleged murderer is personally responsible (as is the enabling father). This is true, but also underneath this is another case of the white male incel whose murderous rage society doesn’t know how or even want to address.

To me, this is the pivotal paragraph. People knew.

I don’t claim to know the full story but I was referring to this from Wikipedia.

Netanyahu’s behavior is so similar to Trump’s, in my view, that it makes me nuts.

There’s an image on the Wikipedia page of a blood stained prayer for peace Rabin was carrying. Such a loss for Israel, and humanity.

Not sorry #boycottDisney

Next time don’t bow down to fascism and censorship.

@deniseoliver-velez.bsky.social don’t let my stern countenance fool you (selfie while riding isn’t easy) - I’m excited to begin a teacher coaching engagement at a bilingual public school right near Young Lords Way.

It’s a school that sees bilingualism as the gift it is, not a deficit like pendejos!

Has anyone else noticed this nugget in the @reuters.com article about the House erupting into chaos over Charlie Kirk?

In the same article where they point out the most recent available CDC data is from *2023*, they assert this.

I know shootings are dropping in NYC. How can they make this claim?

Here’s reporting about him from the Wikipedia page. Do you have other sources?

So this one. This isn’t authentic Trump? Can some expert analyze? I want to hear more about the “Trump is dead” rumors and this would seem to indicate he was alive as of 3:10 pm on 8/29.

In all the fuss over me (come on, I know it’s coming) and Michael, don’t forget it’s also Charlie Parker’s birthday.

I got this one for free, otherwise I would be wearing what is probably a way overpriced Kansas City Stars hat. 🎉🎂

She was the granddaughter of Jacob Schiff, namesake of the school where I started my teaching career in West Harlem - and the nearby playground.

Incidentally, speaking of mayors, I came across this photo from that playground circa 1999.

Folks, things haven’t changed. This account of South Carolina Senator and later Governor James Henry Hammond, told by Isabel Wilkerson in Caste, is about the antebellum south but could be about the GOP today.

From The Power Broker by Robert A. Carp (1976 epic about Robert Moses’ impact on NYC and Long Island).

When the right wing talks about needing to cut the deficit but also to slash all the “fraud” and “waste” govt jobs, they are lying—but there is a basis in historical truth they are exploiting.

Maybe the South is changing. There are even anti-Trump posters in the Charlotte airport!

I had that Staten Island Bart Simpson spiked hair.

Also: What is this video for? Features a lot of shoe brands lol. How did Run DMC sneak in?

Another #Harlem throwback to the early part of this century.

The Dwyer building, a former factory on W 121st St. (?), in stages of demolition. It was replaced by a condo, “The Dwyer.”

“Ghouliani and the Pigs,” this is from a mural in the Giuliani era, in the school yard where I was teaching, 138th and Broadway in West Harlem.

My point exactly here - even this well meaning follower misunderstood your intent (I think), the “brand” of these stations being so intertwined with fundraising appeals.

I want a Gold Star please.

Not only did I vote, then hang out with DA Alvin Bragg and Sen. Robert Jackson, two of the best public servants around, as they were electioneering on the corner away from the voting site, but I ALSO fished my dropped AirPod (!) out of a grate!
