The new community guidelines are highly censorious. You should be concerned about user drop off if these rules do apply. Can you please amend your community guidelines to allow role playing, creative/artistic expression and remove anything about “promoting unsafe behavior?” Intent is not obvious.

fwiw this is what I submitted, but please don't just take my word for it and see what you think of the guidelines for yourself
I have concerns over the possible restriction and banning of certain content depicting fictional characters. There is some language within the guidelines that either seems to indicate this will be the case or is ambiguous enough to be interpreted this way. As an example, guideline 2.C.ii. states that depictions of violence and sensitive topics in art and fiction are permissible unless they glorify harm. However, if the harm being depicted only affects fictional people, this is not something that should be restricted. A rule like this could be understood to mean that anything from artistic gore to fandom "whump" to discussion of popular violent action movies would violate these terms. There is similar unclear and concerning language in various places throughout the text. Guideline 5 is another prominent example, stating in 5.A.ii.d. that users must not share "real or SYNTHETIC intimate images or sexual content" (emphasis mine). This seems to imply that creative works containing sexual content are not allowed, even if they and the people depicted are entirely fictional. Guideline 5.B.i. further specifies that "consensual adult content" is allowed. Does it then follow that purely fictional art or creative writing that includes non-consensual sexual contact between imaginary characters would be in violation of the Community Guidelines? If this is the case, I strongly object to this kind of censorship and overreach, as it's neither illegal nor harmful to share this type of content when properly labeled, and I disagree with the need for Bluesky to restrict posts of this nature.

Wow we’re having “games are art” discourse again! Just gonna leave this here.

From my dissertation:
2.1 Lenses, Not Boxes I wondered whether this section was necessary, but games discourse seems to repeatedly find itself adrift in questions of whether _ counts as a _. We have seen the question repeatedly: Do games count as art? Do games without goals count as games? Is The Sims a game? Are hypertexts interactive fiction? Are Twine pieces literature? In fairness to the researchers cited here, all of whom I respect immensely, many of these sources pose or imply the question rhetorically. Still, the necessity of such a framing frustrates me. "Is _ a _?" is, in my opinion, a fruitless question. The question can never be answered to anyone's satisfaction, and it often serves as either a provocation to espouse politics or as a cover to institute gatekeeping. Its agenda is usually opaque to onlookers and bewildering to those trying to advance the field from across disciplines. We should be thinking in lenses, not boxes. It is always more interesting to ask "If we think of _ through the lens of _, what do we learn?" We know it is more interesting to ask "What do we learn by considering Tom Stoppard through the lens of poststructuralism?" than to ask "Is Stoppard's work poststructuralist?" And while some works may be more or less fruitful when examined through different lenses, sometimes the most unlikely pairings of lenses and objects are the most rewarding. Certainly any of the questions above would be much better served by reframing them in this way.
