The report captures a key point about the scalability of geothermal: we're really good at drilling. In the last 5 years, the number of wells we've drilled in the top 5 shale plays is equivalent to 133GW of geothermal capacity. We can build this stuff at speed and scale.

We're down to the wire on permitting reform for this Congress and @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social does a good job here breaking it down. However, I would love if one of these pieces didn't yadda yadda the geothermal provisions. They're really good and super bipartisan! A BFD! heatmap.news/politics/per...

Psst -- another piece of legislation to accelerate geothermal energy development just passed the House with wide bipartisan support. Congrats to Rep. Fulcher (R-ID) for pushing the CLEAN Act (H.R. 1449) over the finish line.

This sentiment (relayed here by @shanumathew.bsky.social) is 100% correct and needs to be better appreciated by everyone in the utility/data center/power development space. BTM is not a panacea for load growth.
