Hi readers and writers! After buying a second-hand book, one question comes to mind: do you often buy old books, or do you prefer to buy new ones?

I've never come across an AI-written book, mainly because I don't shop on Amazon unless I can't find it elsewhere. By buying from my local bookshop, I ensure that I'm supporting a real author and providing myself with a work of quality.

Listen up! 🙏
How are authors responding to AI-written books? Do we change writing style, stop publishing on Amazon, stop writing altogether? Are mainstream publishers complicit producing AI books themselves? Readers can't tell the difference. Who has solutions? 📚

As always, one of my New Year's resolutions was to read a book every week. I haven't even opened the book I was supposed to read in week one. Not a big deal, I guess...

While we can be assured that AI is not going to replace writers, it is indeed shaping the way we edit books and present them to readers. Rather than fearing the takeover of machines to substitute humans, we should observe how the editorial world is adapting to AI.

"Humans create while machines imitate"

AI will never replace artists. In this article I wrote on Medium, I explain why machines can never truly be compatible with art.

Fiction enables a connection between two worlds. For children, when the line between fiction and reality is not yet clear, reading from a young age becomes a profoundly shaping experience. Let’s encourage reading habits in children.

When I read books as a kid, they didn’t just entertain me, they changed the way I felt about the world. They seemed like magic — portals to places where anything was possible.

I thought, “I want to do THAT.”

I wanted to create more of that experience, not just for myself, but for others.

This is a question for readers and writers: Do you read or find inspiration for your future novels by reading theater plays?
Do you think it is important to read them, or do you consider theater to be a genre separate from literature?

Fiction is already an entertaining way to present reality. Fiction unwraps reality and reveals hidden meanings of the world. But we should be wary—a book should be 'entertaining' in a pedagogical sense; it should be didactic while giving meaning, not merely a diversion.
#Writing #Authors
#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 14 Is it okay for a book to be purely entertainment, or must it have meaning?

I write to entertain. If there is a meaning to it, that's secondary.

Of course, there always IS a meaning, but I don't need to hit my reader of the head with that.

It helps me a lot. It allows me to connect with other writers, create an audience, and share my ideas with others.
It all depends on what your goals are.
Do you believe social media hurts or helps you as a writer?

Art cannot be subject to the same laws as the market. Art is not a product. Ideas cannot die or expire. If the market says a genre is dead, it is more like saying, "This topic is no longer a trend."
Seeing authors get big deals in a genre publishing claims is dead always makes me wonder, does anyone really know what the market is doing?? #Author #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

I mean, what is the point of having an AI model write your stories for you? Writers are the ones who are supposed to share their worldview, offer new insights, and make the world visible and sensible through their words—not machines.

#WritingCommunity #Writing #BookSky #Authors
Is anyone else just *not interested* in using AI for their writing? All accuracy and morality aside, I just don't want to. I want every last word I put on a page to have flowed out from my own body. Maybe I'm romanticizing it, but I just can't see it any other way.

Not my foundational texts. But every time I travel, I feel the necessity of taking something from that place with me: of course, it is a book. In my personal library, you could find books in Yiddish, Polish, Czech, Spanish, English, Italian, Provençal, and Armenian.

I love looking at people’s personal libraries. Especially the books that people tell me they read over and over throughout their lives.

It’s like seeing the foundational texts of someone’s life, values and interests.

What are your personal foundational texts?

I grew up in Guadalajara, México. When November approaches, the city hosts one of the biggest book fairs, the FIL (International Book Festival). My father took me every year and began my journey into reading and writing. It was fun; I finished with my hands full of books.
#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 11. When did you first start reading? How enthusiastically (or not!) did you take to it?

Learned it age 6. Loved it from the start.
I remember sitting in the stable & reading out loud to the horses.
To this day, I wonder how many people walked past & had a blast 😂

I’ve been struck by a question for all the writers out there on Bluesky: Do you have a certain ritual that’s essential before you can start writing? For me, I need to wake up early, grab a cup of coffee, and gaze at the mountains through the window. What about you?

If you’ve tried both, how was your experience? Did anything change? Is it more pleasant to write by hand? Or more practical on a computer?
