The primary difference between PMMM and SM isn't the *events*--the deaths in Madoka aren't even that gruesome. The difference is PMMM's cast shows their psychological wear and tear, and they don't have a cute princess fantasy to cushion their landing.

i think we've hit the breaking point passing through "it's populated here and it drowns out the resistance libs" and "it's populated here and it's all resistance libs" and we're back to step 1 and it's louder. this sucks
