Going to be an awful day for anyone who appreciates vaccines, as Kennedy's ACIP meets today. The agenda is up and even the person representing CDC in the first session is a hard-core antivaxxer (Mark Blaxill). Starting today at 8am Eastern.

Appreciate @ifbookspod.bsky.social getting into this one. Given it's popularity in general and with Bill Gates, Zuckerberg, Obama, and the TED talk set I had assumed it was idiotic but jesus christ it is so much worse than I had assumed. Just the most bargain basement dilettante shit

Hard same. I have spent so much time thinking about and agreeing with many core critical perspectives on law and medicine and other professional contexts. One thing the reactionaries do well is preventing us from improving by forcing constant retrenchment just to survive

The level of dishonesty just in this post is enough to warrant its own coverage, alongside what are probably a number of similar journalists and media types desperately mischaracterizing reality to defend the indefensible
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

Every single woman you know has had this happen to her. Even the goddamn president of Mexico.
Brava: “If I don’t file a complaint, then what message does that send to all Mexican women?” Ms. Sheinbaum said at her daily news conference, noting sexual harassment was a crime… “If this can happen to the president, what’s going to happen to all the young women & women across our country?”

SNAP is probably the most effective federal dollar we spend in terms of long term domestic economic outcomes.

that isn’t why you should support it; you should support it because it is a moral imperative to feed the hungry.

but it’s why even a growth-oriented ghoul shouldn’t oppose it.

Man if this isn't the perfect quote re Weiss: “She plays to an audience of 200 people,” one Hollywood executive with ties to Weiss told Variety. “It just happens to be that audience is made up of people like Jeff Bezos and Bill Ackman. The superrich f------ love her"
have said this before but i am very skeptical about weiss’s vaunted charisma
Bari Weiss, the incoming editor in chief of CBS News, once auditioned for a role on the hit daytime television show "The View," but tested so poorly with audiences that she "wasn't invited back," according to a new report.

The MMR vaccine is one of the most stunningly effective medical therapeutics in existence. It’s also safer than most of your everyday activities. This is simply an attempt to stop people from vaccinating.

Burr imo has always been a good example of what 'left Rogan' could be (and demonstrates why that framing will always fail to yield anything good). It's funny, too, that he's a Trump critic because his reasoning on this issue is pure Trump and classic reactionary shit

i have said this before but when “getting rid of race in admissions” for the administration means “you can’t even try to reach out to underrepresented communities and encourage them to apply and if you do it is illegal discrimination against white people” then the actual goal here is segregation

By ending the minority recruitment program in May, Harvard shuttered a more than 50-year-old initiative to encourage minority high school students to apply.

Similarly to the right wing, our benighted "centrist" class has entered a fully decadent phase. That has been clear since BLM and MeToo but is very clearly revealed in moments like the Kirk fantasy land they are insisting on. It will get weirder and stupider and I'm not sure where it will lead
I have a feeling the reactions to this lady is going to trigger another round of bluesky scolding from the center, but she is spouting "the sky is orange" level unreality, and the majority of the posts are trying to explain the color blue to her and not particularly over the top or mean.

look, you don’t get the abundance without the liberalism.

we’ve established that pretty firmly over the course of the last century.

so maybe if you want abundance your time would be better spent talking people who currently want abundance but not liberalism into liberalism.

This sort of thing is also why I'm not currently worried that these tariffs will remain in place under dems to almost any extent. There's essentially no constituency, let alone enough of one to override the benefit of being handed a 'make prices lower' button as President
Not sure if it's obvious how bananas this is. The usual tariff argument is that it helps producers and hurts consumers (by more).

But Trump's tariffs don't even help (most) producers.

It's genuinely difficult to design a tariff regime that helps less than 4% of manufacturers!
The argument is: We're all meant to sacrifice a bit, so that tariffs can help rebuild American manufacturing. Let's ask American manufacturers whether they're helping.
