… disclose why they need their email and for what they're going to use it for. It was all there, (paraphrasing) "private beta access to the new Android app" 🤷🏽

I think those people just want to complain about something without realizing they're shooting themselves.

That's odd considering they've been using OAuth for—at least a decade already?

Maybe those are the people who re only trying to find fault? I mean, another ATproto service opened up a Docs beta sign-up page for their upcoming Android app, and people complained about privacy and how they must …

Okay, I created a custom feed via @graze.social

bsky.app/profile/did:...

It still is experimental. I'll try to tweak and optimize it as more content comes in.

Hmm… maybe a @graze.social custom feed?

I think it's doable but will require a combination of keywords, hashtags, and some curation and moderation, to pull it off.

What to you think #GrazeNation ?

I think there were multiple attempts to replicate its success over the years. I don't know why they were not able to replicate the success of the pioneers.

Hopefully, someone will try it again today. The landscape has changed. Maybe, just maybe, it can be done in the ATmosphere social network.

There were at least two Fediverse social network instances dedicated to pets in 2008, I think it lasted for a year or two. They closed down after StatusNet closed their free managed hosting service (the first of its kind in open #SocialWeb space).

Two of our dogs had an account there.

Ooh! I didn't know that!

If someone wants to add, though double-check it has been a decade since I read it, Peter F. Hamilton predicted many technologies and one such was solar paint in «Misspent Youth» (2002).

Real-world: It was first demonstrated in the UK in 2014. Then Australia in 2017.

I forgot and deserving special mention: pdsls!

Very useful in creating custom feeds. Without it, we'll be grasping in the dark. 😁

- ProtoPro (Job profile/history)
- Popfeed (TV, Movie, Anime, Book, tracker and review)
- Skylights (TV, Movie, Anime, Book, tracker and review)

I can't say I have a favourite but I like RedDwarf, Ayla's Deer Fork, and Anisota.

If it extends to services:
- Graze Social (feed creator)
- PiPup (markdown blogging)
- Pckt (blogging)
- Rocksky (music scrobbling)
- Wisp.Place (static hosting)
- Semble (bookmarks)
- Monomarks (bookmarks)

I've seen some replies with statements that should've not been said in the first place. It only added fuel to the fire.

If someone from upper management really need to say something, the CM team must approve the copy first, or let them craft it.

As I've said for more than two decades now, BEE Community.

… authorized to engage with the community on matters such as this.

A CM, and their team, should be good communicators and pacifiers for both sides. They're PR, damage control, complaints desk, and friendly neighbourhood Spiderman rolled into one.

I won't go deep into it and I do respect your pal's analysis. I came to that view as well one time.

For me, what they are lacking is a Community Manager with their own team (can be small). It is their job to be the bridge between the entity and the community.

They're the only ones …
November 11, 2025 at 9:45 PM
A successful and thriving community is what I call a "BEE Community". You continuously Build, Engage, & Empower (BEE) your community. By not writing a "very clear and transparent rules", one is skipping the Engage and Empower stages.

It's a one-sided community. Just the entity's side.
November 11, 2025 at 9:45 PM
Not really.

- People will do that no matter what
- People can and will find out how far they can go

Limiting yourself because of that assumption is already a win for the bad actors. You're letting fear and assumptions fill your community. It's not how to build and maintain a community.
