black text on a yellow background reading "WHAT TYPE OF NEW LOCATION ARE YOU LOOKING FOR? - We need a location that is easily accessible by the public that brings us the most wildlife - ideally in the north / northeast side of the Dallas area (Plano, Richardson, Lake Highlands, Garland, etc) - and close to a highway or artery road. - It must be zoned properly for us to do business and have animals. - We will need a building to work out of, whether pre-existing or built to suit (although with the latter, we'd need a location to stay in the interim, and a trusted contractor to work with). - Our basic standards for a building would be roughly 2000+ square feet, single story, with available parking for at least a half dozen vehicles, and with some usable land/yard attached (at least half an acre? more is great) for outdoor enclosures. - An extra ideal property would have privacy fencing already installed around the yard area, and would include - or have an area inside that could accommodate - laundry hookups and a kitchen area. - Some types of existing buildings that are likely to have a useful layout for our purposes would be a daycare center, a vet clinic*, or even a church. These are just basic, general answers to a common question on the off chance that someone owns the perfect property and just needs to read this page to realize it. We are flexible in many ways, and considering multiple different options of how to move forward in this situation. *Yes, we are aware of the vet clinic for sale in Plano on US-75; unfortunately it does not have any land/yard attached."

Although all animals must be admitted through our intake center, many of our animals are kept off-site. - We have several dozen sub-permitted rehabbers ("subs") who rehab out of their homes. These subs provide off-site overflow space when we are at peak baby season, and they provide specialty care for critical animals. - Certain types of animals are never kept on-site at our center. Animals such as deer, large predator species (coyotes, bobcats, foxes) and large raptors, adult skunks, and adult raccoons, are received and triaged on-site then immediately moved to subs who have a larger, more appropriate enclosures for the given species. - During peak season for certain species, if we are at capacity, we sometimes transfer animals to other permitted rehabbers across the state. - We also have constant turnover of the animals in our care. Some patients come to us too late to be saved. Some are better within days, while others may stay for several months. Once sick or injured patients are healthy, or when orphans are grown and capable enough, then we release them to live their best life in the wild."

When we first acquired the permit to run a business from this location in 2022, we were taking in fewer than a thousand animals per year. However, the needs of the community have increased significantly. - In 2024, we took in about 2400 animals from roughly 900 finders. - YTD in 2025, we have already admitted over 2500 animals from over 1000 different finders. This has led to increased traffic to our location, which the city has determined to be beyond the acceptable limit for a business operating from a residential location. As a result, Plano cited the wildlife center for violating the ordinance regarding business traffic at a residence."
