Realization... When it comes to anxiety, the difference been childhood and adulthood is you can see the monsters better as an adult. They aren't weaker or more merciful, just better defined. Having a better sense of what wants to eat you is not a significant comfort if you don't know how to slay it.

I have been a customer for more than ten years. I restock every DragonCon more once a year outside of that. There are a lot of options, and I can find one to fit whatever mood I'm feeling. I have more than a dozen standards I keep on hand. On top of that, she sells great pottery too!
Meet the face behind Dryad Tea! I’m Rubiee, a Certified Tea Specialist and potter. I’ve been crafting unique tea blends and handmade pottery since 2012.

Is anyone considering returning to Dreamwidth? TikTok is going down, I avoided X for the Toxicity, Meta et al is going full Toxic, Livejournal looks like it is to Russia what TikTok is to China, but does Dreamwidth have any major problems? I am tempted to return, even without an audience.

It's Christmas Adam, I have 24 chicken eggs and 5 duck eggs I want to use. There will be a lot of baking this week.

My goal is to stock up on cookie dough, make three brownie variations, and do French Toast with the bread I am currently making.

Can't sleep so I made Moroccan Chicken Soup and then Chocolate Chip Cookies.

That nap this afternoon was necessary but it did mess with my sleep cycle. I will be up at seven again, prepare my contributions to Thanksgiving, and then plan my weekend baking.

I have twice gone on a donut safari, getting several from multiple donut shops and then sharing them roundtable with friends to see which we liked best.

Frivolous, but still a treasured memory. Letting your inner child feel joy is life-affirming. You'll remember it for years later with pleasure.

French Toast came out well, next to make cookie dough. After that, pick a new ACA plan (Thank you President Obama!), and then read <Blatant Plug>Summers Blood by Sara T Bond. </Blatant Plug>. Then fold laundry.

Since I already walked seven miles today, I think I will have done enough.

I should also make more fudge to practice the recipe and see if I have the technique down. It's been a while. My Pinterest also has a caramel recipe that may be worth testing. When the winter holidays come, giving people sweets feels like a traditional gift. Practice does make perfect.

I need to start practicing some of my less-used recipes again. I will make French toast tomorrow, stock my freezer with cookie dough, and finish with a Moroccan chicken soup experiment. If I have energy after that, I may see if an Apple Snickerdoodle Blondie recipe is worth saving.

The more time passes, the better Terry Pratchett's writing gets. The humor, lessons, and morality improve with age.

I wish people studied history more. I suspect I am going to be a victim of those who haven't and who vilify me for declining to suffer from their ignorance.

My favorite book by Elizabeth Donald is still her Setting Suns collection. I like the different stories and the way her mind entertains with so many different prompts. Her submarine story is still my favorite, and I would enjoy seeing that as a horror film someday.

In retrospect, many of the stories that shaped me did so by telling me I wasn't imagining the monsters in my life. More importantly, they told me that I wasn't deluding myself with the thought that I could survive them or that I would not always have to face them alone.

I like Jennifer Roberson's Sword Dancer series. It has good world-building, enough combat description to follow along, flawed heroes, and noble antagonists, and would make an excellent TV series. The sexism is in the text but called out and you can see the characters progress from book to book.

I like Simon R Green's Deathstalker and Forest Kingdom series. They are fun, and good distractions, with humor and and enough punch to make you pay attention. They do need trigger warnings, especially for the emotional dagger in the ribs but are worth reading nevertheless.

David Gemmell wrote excellent low magic fantasy and his worldbuilding is excellent. I like it for the realistic voice that is epic without sacrificing small scale. It was a good glimpse into the nature of heroes and the evolution of character. Not optimistic, but it is well written.

I like The Vampire Files by P.N. Elrod, though I wouldn't say I like where and how the series ended. It was well done, just not to my preference. I say that without criticism as not everything needs to be to my taste and 90% of it is a comfort read. The other 10% is well-done work not for me.

I recommend anything by Lois McMaster Bujold, Neil Gaiman, Seanan McGuire, and Terry Pratchett.

For a calming read, Digger, by Ursula Vernon, for a thoughtful one, Ephemera by Anne Bishop, for the evolution of a world, the Thieves World Anthology, for a philosophy of work, Company by Max Barry.

Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey.

G.K. Chesterton, Tremendous Trifles, Book XVII: The Red Angel (1909)

Not all of us are so fortunate as to only have imaginary monsters in our lives.

The more time passes, the more the comforting stories I have read mean to me. Sometimes, the reasons why they are comforting are painful to realize. Still, they can help with catharsis and the diagnosis of issues I was unaware I had.

I like writers who give me words I didn't know I needed.
