This is circular.
Utility is the best utility.
I'm not gonna disagree, but it doesn't speak at all to the objection that grounding in some value other than utility might be desirable.

Trump has class consciousness, but it's firstly on a moral and internal constitutional level. It just so happens that people of his economic class often share his moral makeup.

That's true of all expertise to greater and lesser extents. This person has interests that might not align with mine, but they know something and I need that knowledge.
The populist solution is to pretend we don't need the expert. The liberal solution is to limit conflicts of interest.

The Engadget article says, "It’s a lot more voice work than I’m used to in a Metroid game, and it goes a long way towards making the journey feel less isolated."
It's like a producer swung by the Zodiac set and saw a fudged blooper take then said, "We need more of that; my 7yo will love it."

Man, I'm so grateful that the founders fought and argued for bubbles of First Amendment protection in a sea of armed federal officers. It's up there with the promise that soldiers won't be quartered in the main and guest bedroom at the same time.

Well, Mr. Hat, are YOU twice as likely in a foster the general population? Is it second nature?

Grand jury transcripts going missing feels less likely than "We dropped the tapes in the mop bucket." The latter is entirely within the control of bad actors. The transcripts, though...I'd think those are handled entirely by, and I say this with respect, professional apolitical pencil pushers.

@speterdavis.com I don't know where you got your sense of what will become relevant in politics within the next 3 months but this re:Krauss is uncanny.

I don't like that "Maybe if the world had been nicer" has been applied both to this guy and to Musk. Musk is surely the much smaller man - who wouldn't that be true of? - but it feels like a condescending frame all the same.

I had not been waiting. Had not heard of it. But dang I'm intrigued now

Ooo, I love evoking bad feels with gameplay for thematic purpose!
A friend of mine works for a group that specializes in anti-rivalry research and education. That idea has inspired some anti-violent RPGs from me, where violence is very possible and also very bad.

Games of Pandemic and its relatives are generally better the fewer good turns the players collectively have.

That said, I'm glad the thing is a nice to use product now. I've only recently started TTRPG design and even more only recently started using Affinity, so I don't have the domain experience to contribute more than "The gift is a little smelly."

Forever is a long time, but there's a qualitative difference between the gift of RFC 9293 (TCP spec) and the gift of Entity Framework or password sharing.
When the pitch isn't just "we own your workflow" but "Our business model is selling GenAI," there's more than usual cause to be suspicious.

I appreciate this, thank you.
My day job is software. My first job was at a former Silverlight shop. I have been trained to be suspicious of "gifts". Maybe being a curmudgeon for 5 years just means I have 5 years of less optimal tools. That's a me problem. Studio can't stay good indefinitely.

I think there's a stronger argument for Harambe (1999-2016), but it's an open question.

I barely have room to consider how much I should or shouldn't hate on the Court in light of the incandescent malice emanating from a White House that is asking them to let the exec not give food with the In Case of Trouble, Give People Food Fund.

There's some incredible "Yes, And..." play in this thread exploring the academic retrieval of the Historical Darth Vader.
Made me think of the imaginary Elden Ring strategies.
“Darth Vader” was an amalgamation of various Imperial Era generals and cyborgs that were combined in histories written centuries after the fact

Breaking kayfabe: this is my favorite alt explanation for the elected queen since the idea that it's an allowance for a kid brought into an ongoing RPG who wanted to contribute but didn't grasp the intended flavor.

You could make an argument for leaving in unexpected dinosaur behaviors that's probably even stronger than Goat Sim's argument for leaving in bugs.
