The time to talk about what we want from candidates is NOW, well in advance of primaries, so we can spot people with potential and start building them up! We are participating in democracy! We have BEEN talking about this; one reason we're seeing a growing number of pols who align with our values!
So frustrating that people talking well in advance of an election about what they expect from candidates are being screamed at for being handmaidens of fascism. Most critics I see of Newsom are, for example, identifying specific candidates and behaviors they like and want more of!

The ICE camps are concentration camps. They should be called concentration camps.

It is, of course, important to distinguish between concentration camps and death camps, but also, I am not sure we will know when or if we undergo the transition from concentration camps into death camps.

Yes: there is no double jeopardy for impeachment proceedings. You can keep doing it over and over.
The answer is simple. You impeach him again because he is acting criminally and unconstitutionally, and impeachment is what the rule of law demands in such circumstances.

You do it because it is the right thing to do.

But that's too simple for the pundit-brain class.
What would the point be of another Trump impeachment when he’s a lame duck and Rs won’t convict him?

Dems need an answer for the remnant of resistance people who are demanding impeachment but far more important for them to use normal Oversight powers effectively.

ICE threatening charges against people for asking supposed officers to show their badges is weakness. Not succeeding where they hoped to, left relying on threats that likely won’t go anywhere in court (harassment isn’t nothing, but it’s limited).

It’s a sign to resist their abuses more, not less.

Have separately confirmed. Secretary Kennedy should be removed.
This has been building for a while, but another next generation COVID vaccine, this on in Phase IIb trials, has gotten the axe from RFK, Jr. (R-Thanatos). Because he wants people to die. www.biospace.com/policy/hhs-p...

A host of caterpillars native to Hawaii use silk glands to spin protective cases studded w/lichen, sand & other materials. This one is the first to use ant heads & fly wings. Scientists found just 62 of the carnivorous caterpillars in over 20 years of observing.

A new carnivorous caterpillar that wears the remains of its prey has been dubbed the bone collector. The odd insect is only found on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Fascism is destructive & awful & "not everyone lives to see the other side, but it always, always fails. It takes work. It takes fighting back. It takes throwing punches. It takes doing whatever it takes to beat it back..."

The United States is currently a country where you can be kidnapped by secret police and shipped off to a slave labour concentration camp without ever being charged with a crime or getting a chance to argue your case in front of a judge.

If you think it can't happen to you, why do you think that?
It sure looks like they’re going all in on the “the executive branch can ignore court orders if it thinks the court lacks jurisdiction” thing

Wild. Right after Cory Booker went viral for speaking on the "wretched truth about America," he just voted to keep arming a government that just officially achieved The Deadliest Conflict Ever for Journalists & executed and buried 15 paramedics and their emergency vehicles
"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥

We expected 2,000 people out in GOP-held Greeley, Colorado.

11,000 people showed up.

Something special is happening, folks. Now is the time to organize in every dimension possible and get to work.

They claim they can snatch people up, put them on planes, and deport them to a country run by an authoritarian, where those people will be forced to work slave labor at an inhumane prison. All without due process, and in defiance of federal courts.

The hypotheticals are over. This is the nightmare.

*sigh*

Totalitarian regimes are not ones in which people stop working.

The world does not suddenly become tinged with sepia when you are no longer free. Sunlight will still shine. Jobs will still exist—indeed, the issue you may have is it becomes harder to not work than ever before.

As always, the whole of Milan's thread is relevant.
In re: this shitty article, we do in fact gatekeep American citizenship, and the gatekeeping in question is laid out in federal statutes, none of which allow us to disappear a green card holder without due process for peacefully protesting, no matter what they are protesting for.
A permanent resident got disappeared without a warrant or due process for expressing unpopular opinions? The libertarians must be outraged!

Oh.

And like plenty, but I'd also like them to take performative actions? We're in an attention & morale war, the GOP is putting on daily shows.

Defend the liberty of a stranger as you would defend your own, or that of a loved one, because that is what's actually on the table—whether we are a society that will sit still as our neighbors are snatched in the night, and disappeared into darkness, or a society that will fight for each other.
