Human rights are unconditional. Evacuate the privatised prisons in Libya and grant safe access to Europe to those seeking protection and a better life. This is the only way to end deaths at sea. Human rights apply to everyone or no one.

We demand:
• An end to unlawful detentions
• Protection of international law: abolish the Piantedosi decree
• An end to the instrumentalisation of Libya
• No more distant port assignments
• Crimes must have consequences.
• For the right to freedom of movement – safe and legal routes

That is why various sea rescue organisations are now joining forces to form the largest alliance of civilian search and rescue organisations, JUSTICE FLEET, to defend human rights and international maritime law.
As Seebrücke, we support the Justice Fleet with many activists.

The decision thus shows once again that the detention of ships by means of the Piantedosi decree is not lawful – a decision that has already been made in other lawsuits. We therefore call for the abolition of the Piantedosi decree! Solidarity will win!

It also clarified that the so-called Libyan coast guard is not a legitimate search and rescue actor. SOS Humanity is now suing the Italian government for damages.

We are pleased that the UN Social Committee has made this decision for the time being and call on the Thuringian state government and all state governments that implement this practice to stop immediately and comply with human rights! Human rights are non-negotiable!

The summary decision of the UN Social Committee of 17 October 2025 is a provisional order (interim measure). When the case is finally decided, the question of human rights violations will be addressed, as well as possible compensation for the person affected.

The complaint to the UN Social Committee was preceded by summary proceedings before the Gotha Social Court and then before the Thuringian Regional Social Court. However, neither of the two Thuringian courts had stopped the exclusion from benefits.
