Médecins Sans Frontières is sending a new ship! The news comes about a year after Médecins Sans Frontières stopped its mission with the rescue ship Geo Barents in the Mediterranean. The Oyvon (from Norwegian: hope for the island) is a smaller & faster ship than the Geo Barents.

Together with Humanitarian Pilots Initiative (HPI), SOS Mediterranee is launching an aerial reconnaissance mission. The first reconnaissance flights of the Albatross aircraft are scheduled to begin in November.

3 individuals had lodged complaints because they had been placed in a deportation detention centre without a court order. Now, the Federal Constitutional Court has clarified that individuals cannot simply be arrested & detained if deportation detention is to be ordered for them in the near future.

At least 21 people have drowned in two shipwrecks in the Aegean Sea since Friday. Only two people survived Friday's shipwreck, while 17 drowned. One of the survivors swam for six hours until he reached the coast and was able to save himself for the time being.

The civil court in Agrigento has ruled that the detention of the civilian rescue ship Aurora in July 2025 was illegal. The crew's actions were necessary to protect human lives.

Great news! The civilian sea rescue organisation @missionlifeline.bsky.social is sending a new ship! If Europe tries to intimidate civil society and prevent it from saving lives by blocking ships, then we will simply send more ships!

The Federal Cabinet has decided to extend the IRINI mandate. Unlike in the past, the text for the German mandate no longer excludes support for the so-called Libyan coast guard, but explicitly mentions it as an option.
