Another small project: repairing and refurbishing another old (1970) magneto-electric voltmeter... Let's start with the internals. A 1968 polystyrene capacitor? Still works... but the voltage dividers are broken. Let's try to fix them...

Thanks to one of my friend, I was fortunate enough to own the iconic 630-APL meter from Triplett. Bought for little, destroyed by the USPS, finally saved from death! Glued and repaired, now works great! The precision of the measurements of this 37-year-old meter surprised me 🤯

Do you remember the time when there was no FLASH in town? 😉 Developing code for microcontrollers without FLASH memory meant that every line of code had to be thought out a hundred times. Erasing an EPROM-based MCU with UV light took time, and neither DEBUG nor ICP was possible..

... unfortunately, after a dozen or so minutes of tinkering with the monitor, it turns out that it's just a very old filtering capacitor at the mains input that decided to give you a surprise. 😉

When, after more than 20 years, you take out and clean up your old monochrome monitor, you start playing MEGABLAST on Your 8-bit Atari and suddenly, you smell something burning, followed by the sound of a small explosion... You start to wonder - could Unitra have invented 7D cinema? 😉

from the series: 'Memories from the past,' this time an old post from 2020:

V640 arrived! Restoration time! The meter is after the first cleaning and "face lifting"... next step to repair the internal power supply!

I still have this CD, and even though my musical tastes have evolved a bit, I still think this album is great.
