Thanks, the light was surprisingly good considering we were in a big shed!

Sorry for the delay but thrilled to hear you're enjoying the book.

I've yet to come across any kind of list that gives dates for when the clock was where and i don't know about Southend, sorry. Probably need to search local newspapers.

Well done on the climb! It's such a beautiful part of the world

Ah yes, thank you 😊 I included that one in my recent talk at Southport, for obvious reasons!

Yes that was new to me too. Mostly the seaside versions just offered entertainment with hanging baskets dotted around but Brighton Floral Hall was a market and Rhyl's was a proper greenhouse full of plants...and parrots

Some Seaside Floral Halls from the 1900s, 1930s and 1950s at #Scarborough, #Gorleston and #Rhyl. They were often heavily glazed but took on a different form between the wars when that at Gorleston was part of a #lido complex. Although it's the only survivor of the 3, it faces an uncertain future.

I think so, you just need to look at that barrel vault and you can see where it came from

I think it's fair to say the Hornsea Floral Hall has seen better days! It was one of a group of Yorkshire Floral Hall's built by the Edwardians (others at Scarborough and Bridlington) but has been altered a lot over the years

Looks interesting 😀 Love a charity shop bargain!

Good to see there's a plan, thanks

It sounds unlikely but Salvation Army members in Worthing were mostly outsiders and resented as such. Lots of them were also women because the organization treated both sexes equally. This was not popular with locals either

Other 1932 #fairground/ #seaside trivia - yo-yos were the latest novelty; #Folkestone banned Punch and Judy men 😱; the world record for longest fast was contended by various sideshow acts and soda fountains were very profitable
